I’ve played SMB3 since around 1998 (4 years old) and had NO IDEA about the white mushroom bonuses.

Super Mario Bros 2 was actually meant to be a different game called Doki Doki Panic 2.

The first one did very poorly so the second was shelved.

The USA wanted a new Mario game and Lost Levels was deemed too difficult for western audiences.

It was decided to convert Doki Doki Panic 2 and give us that.

i knew about the white mushroom houses in mario 3 but i didnt know at the time how they appeared. that was the only fact i knew so i guess 0.5/24.

In Mario 3D world, 1-2, there is a little hole, jump on a koopa shell, and get infinite 1ups

That ghost from super mario 3d land looks very similar to the "hell valley sky tree" ghostly figures you can find in a world in super mario galaxy 2

That concept of Zelda Ganon’s final form a giant monster where he is both the environment and the boss. They couldn’t pull that off due to 64 limitations. I have a feeling Shadow of Colossus heard of this and pulled it off with Play station 2 larger data or whatever you call it. And that how shadow of colossus was inspired. I can almost put money on that bet, that’s how it happened.

fun fact: in SMB3 if you have 2 whistles then you can be in world 1, go to the warp zone, then use the 2nd whistle to unlock warping to world 8

SMB3 has even more interesting things most probably didn't know about
for example, the White Mushroom Houses give P Wings in odd-numbered worlds (1, 3, 5, 7) and Anchors in even-numbered ones (2,4,6)
if you rescue a king while wearing one of the special suits (Frog, Tanooki, Hammer) the kings have special dialogue
Frog: looks like you're cursed, should I transform you back?
Tanooki: Thanks kind Tanooki!
Hammer: Can I borrow your suit?
Bowser can be beaten by using hammers, but doing so only gives you a measly 100 points

I havent had the chance to recreate it but in new super mario brothers wii if you can throw an ice block when another player is in the victory animation for completing the course it will slide them off the map

Super Mario 2 is the orginal. Do not care if the Lost stars was supposed to be in Japan & didn't bring it here. They are both Mario games.

Super Mario World 2? Super Mario Land 3?

It's so strange to me how they messed up on translations, especially when a high school Japanese 1 course will teach you that it's vowel-consonant-vowel-consanant, with the exception of 'n' (GENERALLY). I haven't taken Japanese since I tried back then, and that was almost 25 years ago and even I remember that, even if I don't remember a single other thing lol. I ended up sticking with German and taking 6 more years of that in High School/College (8 total).
