124060 for me.
Maybe a mid-90s day date too one day
first suggested video under this one (same channel): why I sold my rolex submariner
ОтветитьExcellent video! I’ve worn tool type wristwatches my entire life until recently. However, my father passed recently and I inherited 3 very nice watches that have changed my approach considerably: a vintage 18k gold Tudor Oyster Yorke (1958), an 18k Concord (1984), and a gold Chopard pocket watch. I now wear the Tudor instead of one of my beater watches most days, but I worry I’m going to break it. After a lot of research and contemplating the pros and cons, I have decided to buy a Rolex Submariner, and next week will pick it up from my jeweler. I can’t think of any other watch that ticks all the boxes for me… a daily wear watch that is fit for any dress occasion, tight enough to survive my often waterlogged outdoor pursuits, robust enough to withstand the constant pounding of my woodworking and shooting hobbies, and estherically pleasing enough to keep me smiling every time I look at it. A watch I can wear to my coffin, where my heirs can remove it from my wrist at the last and carry it forward in time for the next generation to enjoy. So, yes, I believe it will be the only watch I ever need from now on.
ОтветитьHello! I enjoyed your video to the extent that you present the Submariner as jewelry. Before I rant, my only watch is the Rolex 15238 on the gold Jubilee. For practical reasons, I wear the (entry-level)15210 c. late 1981 on a new Jubilee, which I have been wearing for over forty years and freshly serviced by R-USA NY and still keeps 7 seconds per month. If I had my way at Rolex, I would make nearly all of the tool watches available ONLY to their respective profession, for nearly all of the people seeking to own a watch such as the Submariner have little to no idea what they were made to do other than aiding one to locate or navigate to anyplace on earth down to the second. The Submariner is made to aid in preserving a diver's life whereas the GMT is better suited for open ocean navigation. But wasn't sir Francis Chichester who used his so-called "entry-level" Rolex 34mm DATE model to circumnavigate our planet in his Gypsy Moth without Internet backup - do you remember 1966? For some reason like all of the vulgar marketing people, you make no mention as to what and why the various Rolex watches are made for little other than horologic jewelry that better tells time.
I own a Pepsi and just picked up a 124060 Submariner...and absolutely love it! Not sure if it's just the "honeymoon" phase or if the feeling is real. But this timepiece definitely checks all the boxes.
ОтветитьBeautiful watch. Absolute nightmare to get a new one been over a year still waiting the phone call from the AD.
ОтветитьSan Martin can let you experience the sub before dropping the cash.
ОтветитьI prefer Rolex without cyclops. I only collect non date Rolex.
ОтветитьThe sea dweller deep sea!
ОтветитьGreat review, No Date for me all day! love the continuity of the glass without a date complication! the new Explorer has a better Anti-Reflective coating, but I agree with you on the Submariner reflecting light & losing some clarity. The No Date 40mm pre 41mm demise just seems to have the perfect proportions for me.
ОтветитьSea Dweller 16600, perfect watch.
ОтветитьNot at all. Imagine wearing that in black tie, white tie or mess dress...dreadful.
ОтветитьOMEGA SEASMASTER 300 with the helium valve is what I would go for if I want a stainless steel everyday diver. I want a full yellow gold sub with black dial as my grail diver.
ОтветитьWhy would anyone buy the Submariner watch, with it having the most fake copies of any watch by far. Thousands of people are walking around with their fake Rolex, and so goes any status or uniqueness. I will wear my Ulysses Nardin, proudly!
ОтветитьOne watch is not a collection
ОтветитьSpeedmaster will do for me as the Rolex AD makes you feel a bagger
ОтветитьI bought my sub date in 2004 in the Bahamas for about 5k US. It is a great watch and I wear it everyday, as such it gets pretty beat and scratched up but the good news is that when you send it for service they buff right out.
ОтветитьYour number 5 is my number 1 reason and only for not getting a Submariner. I just can't stomach or convince myself to wear it around other people in my circle as a daily wear.
ОтветитьI’ve never seen any salesman wearing a submariner, and incan count on 1 hand the times I’ve ever seen someone wearing one
ОтветитьDo any actual scuba divers dive with this watch? I'd just like to know......
ОтветитьI own 124060. No cyclops for me, thank you very much, this is a Sub not a GMT Master.
Anyway, dunked mine in all kinds of washing mixtures unintentionally when I washed my car
Banged him here and there on door frames
Wore him in cold and hot conditions.
Got him wet numerous times.
Still keeps a great time, doing fine.
I just picked up the GMT Master II all black 116710LN and find it to be an absolutely perfect daily wear, one watch collection. The subtle difference of having polished bracelet center links and a GMT function steps it up a notch over the submariner, for travel and more formal occasions.
Although, I'm admittedly bias.
new subscriber! great, thorough, honest, and level-headed video. looking forward to more.
ОтветитьBlue Hydro conquest Longines Longines Why ? older Company more reliable cost less looks better. It’s the money. It’s the history too many fake Rolex’s
ОтветитьJust got mine at mayors of Tampa. Was on waiting list forever but they finally called. Date version
Ответитьthe ENGLISH watch ? wtf? whitewashing
ОтветитьFellow Wankers! That got me 😅😅😅😅😅
ОтветитьHard to say as i love my sd 43 and omega sm chronograph equally. Rolex wears a bit better . Omega feels more rugged but slightly less refined
ОтветитьThere is no such thing as a "No date" version.
ОтветитьRolex watches are not found on salesmen. And they are realistically not very common at all. I rarely, if ever, see one in the wild.
ОтветитьOne watch colection definitly not submariner, date just would be best one watch colection.
Ответитьsubmariner is a ripoff and total trash SKX IS THE WAY ❤
ОтветитьIt is absolutely a great watch, iconic design. I've heard the flaws you've mentioned before, but also this is a watch that many find to be "devoid of personality", and will instead point to something with a bolder design like the Tudor Black Bay or Omega SpeedMaster
ОтветитьI have the 116710BLNR & 226570 Polar. Always been wanting a Submariner Date, but contemplating between 126610LV and 126610LN 🤔
ОтветитьGreat review! I do have to say that Black Bay 58 sits much better on the wrist and so does a seamaster, due to mostly flat caseback.
Ответитьproblem is most people think you are a twit if you wear a rolex
ОтветитьI have worn my GMT Master II every day for the past 11 years and I am giving it a bit of a rest - taking out for vacations and special occasions (my wife and I will likely send our watches in for a full service - not needed) but to make them look new again. The GMT is an unbelievable watch, I am on the “list” for a Sub and will get one or two sooner or later. Right now I am enjoying some lesser watches just for fun and variety - Seiko, Citizen, Phoibos, even a couple of San Martin and Steeldives but nothing is a Rolex - I also enjoy my Seamaster… in a few years I will have these beater variety watches but the core and the heart of my collection will always be my beloved GMT Master II and the Sub I eventually get. The Sub is an awesome watch, it’s the most copied, covered and durable watch that retains or gains value, it’s perfect for a 1 watch collection, it’s the Icon.
ОтветитьIs the submariner a good investment case? Time horizon is mid to long term before selling.
ОтветитьI just sold my VC 222 and Rolex Hulk due to paranoia, well it’s actually not even paranoia as the UK is no longer a safe place and these watches are unmistakable to even the average scumbag. I never felt comfortable wearing them and now when I’m out in the evening for dinner or a few drinks I can relax. It’s just not worth the risk in the UK as the modern scumbag stabs now and asks questions later. You go out anywhere in England wearing one of these watches and you are making yourself a target.
ОтветитьYou lost me at Apple watch.
ОтветитьGreat watch!
The DJ is probably the ideal one watch however.
I really enjoyed this episode. I had the 126610LN and sold it, why?....well to be honest I can confirm I was an idiot. I now have another one. I've had it engraved and will pass it to my daughter upon my departure from this orb. For me it will be the one and only. Many thanks for your video.
ОтветитьNice to stumble upon your channel. I enjoyed this discussion very much and look forward to following you.
ОтветитьThose submariners are just stunning
ОтветитьThis all returns to the question of why you buy a watch. If it is as a ‘reward’, then this watch is one hell of a reward. Just make sure you can anticipate yourself deserving that reward around three years in advance, unless you happen to be Royalty.
Status? Rolex make 1.2 million (approx) watches a year. They are the third biggest watch maker in Switzerland. W*ankers aside, I am reminded of the line about Mercedes. Supposedly an exclusive car, yet every Egyptian taxi driver has one.
But if you don’t care about delayed reward, status, and a mark-up so extraordinary as to be criminal, then you have your one watch. At least you have the compensation of knowing that, unlike any make other that Patel Philippe and JLC, it will increase in value on your wrist.
Different strokes for different folks, I own a Tudor tiger, a Tag Heuer and a Rolex deep-sea 50th anniversary, guess which gets the most wrist time that right my Tag Heuer, second to my original Casio calculator Illuminator from 1993. LOL
ОтветитьI agree with you, when I tried it I also found that the Submariner is too flat and does not sufficiently fit the shape of the wrist. A design fault that is quite regrettable at this price level. The Seiko of the same size, or even a little larger, do much better here. But the Submariner still has a crazy charm. :)
ОтветитьI have just recently acquired an 114060, and love it! Have been through several Omega Seamaster 300's, a couple of Planet Oceans, a few Moonwatches, a 5-digit Yacht-Master and a Breitling Chronomat. All of them really nice and beautiful watches, but none of them made me feel as "finished" in the collection as this one. I'll still hang on to my Breitling SuperOcean Heritage rose gold as it is really beautiful and a gift from the wife, and I also have a couple of other watches that are gifts that I'll hang on to, but I don't really feel the urge to get anything new any more, perhaps with the exception of a latest gen Speedy with sapphire ;-P
ОтветитьGood video sir
