The song was inspired by the poems of the Russian poet Boris Ryzhy, who committed suicide on May 7, 2001 at the age of 26.
His poems had themes of despair and delinquency in a post-Soviet Russia, which were fueled by his depression and alcoholism (source: genius.com)
