Ding says he is like a philosopher in Chess. Rapport an artist he says. In my opinión Magnus is a Fisherman. He is patient he waits for his opponent to blunder and defeat them. Ive red him saying they Will. When asked about Judith didnt he knew one game the game was a draw he knew right the way. He was expecting the other to blunder. Didnt that time. We remember a famous game vs Nepo. Nepo had the queen. The game was a draw but Nepo blundered and lost. Alas. A Fisherman can get a nice fish. Sure. But you can hook a 5 meter great White. That happened when he lost against Nieman. Magnus hates a lot, loosing. He suffers too much. He cant and wont change. That is Magnus.

Kasparov, Magnus or Fischer could be the goat but only Mikhail Tal played for the crowd and chess fans considering the chess as Sports.
If Tal would have take care of his health and prepared for the tournament like the above chess giants Tal might be the greatest chess player of all time.

He has a great point. Next gen will always have the information and resources from last gen. The gap between #1 and the rest, and for players like Magnus to do it for so long is crazy!

One thing he's wrong about. Magnus' rating is more valuable than Kasparov's peak rating because there is much more formidable competition nowadays. And everyone is playing engine lines and whatnot. It's much harder to steal points from such good players than it is when the gap is larger.

If we are basing entire careers on the world Cup alone (1 month every 4 years), then i can see why Maradona could come out on top. However, that's too little to judge on.

The GOAT of anything is always a complex thing to establish because of generational differences, however, it should be a balance of peaks, longevity at the top and how better they are against their respective contemporaries.

As much as he brilliantly argues that Magnus is way more informed than grandmasters of his (80s & 90s) generation, he equally should acknowledge that Magnus is competing against today’s players who are also equipped with the information and tools Magnus has at his disposal.

Kasparov barely played compared to Magnus. Back then, the frequency was so much lower and prep time and focus much higher per event. Moreover, Magnus is also a WC in rapid and blitz, which rely far less on study and theory, which was Kasparov’s strong suit ( so he likey would have been weaker at both than classical). Magnus also won 125 consecutive classical matches ( breaking the previous record by 25%!!!). Let’s also not forget that Magnus has more online wins while drunk and singing than anyone else!

Pele, there is no comparison, best player in the world at 17 and lead his team to win the world cup as a teenager. A country stopped a civil war to watch him play an exhibition, no one would that for messi or maradona, neither of which can head the ball, or pass better, with all due respect to them. Actually I'll take a prime Ronaldo (Brazilian)over either one.

Kasparov and Karpov are still hiding from Fischer. Neither one would have been champion if Russia didn't screw Fischer (and they went along with it).

If your rating change is affected by variables, such as the opponent's rating at the time of a win/loss, then is it fair to say that Magnus has the highest rating because his opponents are almost as highly rated as he is? If he had no closely rated opponents then his rating would not be so high, correct?

This guy played an unbelievably imaginatory game of chess. I remember a game where the grandmasters announcing the game thought he was in a losing position then a few moves later he won the game. Of course we all loved Fisher’s game but this guy was unbelievable.

Human capabilities of playing chess or in any sport for that matters in the age of AI shows to err is human ...but for my understanding Kasparov way superior than any of any generation just because of his enthusiasm and drive for win...but don't disrespect Capablanca...Tahl...and Fischer.

Worth mentioning that now in 2025 Magnus still is regarded as the nr. 1 player in the world, and is so on paper when it comes to rating and wins close to every tournament he participates in. He doesn't hold the World Champion in Standard chess title anymore. He was in consideration for being one of the greatest, and now it's been another 5 years of him on top
