I remember sobbing to this song in middle school cause it reminded me too much of the relationship I was in. She had a bad home life and as her partner I felt that it was up to me to make her better, I was also just getting medication and therapy so I really thought I could help. It wasn't until high school and we went to different schools that I was able to learn that it was not my responsibility to make her better. She didn't want to get better and she was dragging me down with her. So when the girl shows how she fixes his flower pots, how spring no longer brought her happiness, and when she cuts their ribbons, let's out all of her emotions, and leaves him for her own sake instead of getting dragged down by him, I cried. I felt how she felt. Free, guilty, and never looking back. I wonder how she's doing now?

(1/2)
So let's start at the very beginning, we're shown a series of images. I believe these are before and after scenes. The first is of a desk with some items, a globe, four hanging pictures, and a plant. After we get the same scene except the desk gets messy, cluttered, things have fallen over, and it's overflowing. What I believe to be a stuble nod at their relationship filling up with problems that they aren't dealing with. The globe gets several pins put into it, possibly vacations they've taken to distract themselves. More pictures are hung up, however they're covered with blue boxes. Empty memories, faked positivity. They're trying to make good memories, but they just can't. The plant is a little wilted and the pot is falling apart. I believe the plant - at least in this scene - represents their mental stability while the pot is their relationship. The pot is breaking, the plant is dying.

Next we get three potted plants. At first they're healthy and the pots are in perfect condition, then all three have varying degrees of destruction. The far right being the worst while the middle is the best. Once more, symbols of a relationship falling apart and dying.

Finally we get a clock. A symbol of time. It breaks in the next scene and that I believe is a brief nod at the time they've spend together leading to nothing good.

Then the sign "quiet room" is put up, congrats you made it through the first four seconds. Quick notes about the sign, the 'q' is obviously a bit wonky. It's a swirl with a straight line, it steals your attention away. Then 'uiet' is normal before the 'r' in "room" is shown as a small flower. The 'oom' however is scrambled and the 'm' is in two different pieces. Personally I'm an overthinker, but this could be a quick timeline of the relationship. In the beginning it was a swirl of emotions, then it was normal for a while, before problems bloomed and the relationship fell apart.

Next we get some credits shown with an arts and crafts kinda situation, paper and a pair of scissors. The paper shows up multiple times and the scissors are important.

More credits with some good memories - filled in photos - along with some random items.

Now the singing starts. First we get whom I shall be referring to as a he, although hell if I know. His mouth is covered with this floating paper ring, the first lines are literally "Calling out, I don't make a sound" and this is most likely told from his point of view. He sees the problems in the relationship, but doesn't address them. He avoids and when he does speak it isn't clear, he "doesn't make a sound" or it doesn't make a difference.

Then we get his partner. She's slouched over, head hung low and surrounded by potted plants. Her ring is a bit higher than his in this scene and we later discover it is covering her eyes. Let's talk about posture, she clearly looks out of it and is in a sad appearing stance, her head hung low, hair covering face, arms limp. I say she's put all of her energy into the plants, which represent the relationship, and therefore she is exhausted. Mentally and physically.

The man shows up and the lyrics "Again, another sad attempt only ends in tears" plays. She attempted to help the relationship, but she mentally suffered. He attempted to help her, but he can't do much but offer temporary comfort.

He crouches down with an almost scolding look on this face like "Really, you had to do that?" further enhancing that he sees the problems, and she doesn't. Like he's gently scolding her blindness and the fact that she wasted her very precious energy. The lyrics "You already knew it though" go off and they possibly point to her having done this numerous times.

We get a short clip of him eating while lyrics go to tell how flavorless everything is, all the time. Here they are eating actual food - something that changes later on. I believe he's not so much talking about food, but their life together. Every day is the same. Problems and stress, nothing good or 'flavorful' happens. He can't savor any memories they're making. A quick glance across the table to see her.

Then she has a mental breakdown of sorts. He appears calm when seeing this, perhaps it has happened before. One second she is shown as being fine, the next she's crying heavily. Screaming out for help, but she doesn't understand what's wrong. She can't see it.

They have a conversation. She is expressing that she can't do this anymore, while his response kinda concerned me the first time I listened. "The feeling fades, just wait a little more" could be seen as hopeful, hopeful that things will get better. But I see it as he has gone through this, most likely silently and not expressing the emotions. He has had the mental breakdowns, the exhaustion, he's emotionless or at least appears emotionless at this point. Therefore he reaches for the doorknob first. That'll be discussed further later.

The we get the seesaw scene. She is one end, at this point she is on the lower part is is showing signs of unhappiness and possibly confusion or stress. Once more with the posture and body language. Her body is shown almost caving in on itself, like most do when they get sad. They attempt to hug themselves. Her head is in her hand, another thing people do when stressed or confused. Reinforcing the idea that she openly displays her unhappiness, but has no idea why she is having all these problems.

On the opposite end of the spectrum - and opposite end of the seesaw - we see him. He appears to be playing around, leaning back with his legs outstretched. He looks relax and carefree. While he stares up, knowing the problems but masking the unhappiness.

Next scene and they're in their bedroom. She is on the bed, openly showing her tiredness. He is at the foot of the bed on the floor, tired but distracting himself with something.

A smooth scene of someone turning off the lights, presumably the man.

Now we get the amazing chorus. He is pulling the girl along, he is attempting to guide her to the door. Aka he is trying to convince her that they need to end this. Light often symbolizes new, new beginnings and such. That's why the lyrics has them swimming to darkness, the end. Like reaching the bottom of the ocean, the end of the journey.

Once more we are shown him seeing, but not saying anything while she loudly speaks, but is unable to see.

She is tiptoing around a wavy toy train track, the toy train up in the air. The train track in this case represents their relationship, how it is up in the air and off the tracks. They never planned for this to happen. This also shows her possibly purposely being careful to avoid the problems, because she doesn't want to see them.

Unlike the woman, he is firmly walking while Legos are being dropped. He has full and clear intentions, he is confident this is what should be done and he is willing to go through the pain so it happens.

His hand is on the doorknob. Then the floor pulls him down in the first color change, blues and dull colors have reigned supreme until now. A soft pink, when asked most people say pink stands for love. I believe that is what it means here. His love for her stops him from ending it, he wants them to be together.

A flash of them on a heap on their bed. Now here they're making another memory, except this one seems to be rather pleasurable. At least at the moment.

Now she see her smile. For the first time. She is taking care of herself, she is better because now he is taking care of the problems he can see. Or he should be.

Now we see that he is in fact struggling greatly. All the pots and plants are falling apart. He can see the problems, but doesn't know how to help. She can't see them, but can help at the expense of her energy. He's looking frustrated. Perhaps it is because of the red background, but he appears to be angry. Probably at himself, for allowing things to get this bad.

She steps in and begins the healing process again.

Now we see them eating the flowers. The flowers represent their relationship and energy. They need to eat the flowers to get personal energy, so they can be happy and okay again. However that means sacrificing their relationship.

I am not sure what is happening in the close up on his eyes. She is either spinning a flower before the petals fall off, or watching as a match or sparkler burns itself out. Either way it goes to show how dead ended this relationship is becoming, however she in the one holding the object. She is the one finally starting to understand the fatality of it.

Now we see her. Once more she is crying, however she is speaking to herself now. Finally beginning to see, explaining it to herself. Then we see her without the paper ring.

Next and we see him partially covered by leaves. This is in a memories point of view, while this particular scene is him beginning to close off in a sense. Where he starts to see issues, but ignores them.

Flip to her and the top half of her head is completely covered in leaves. She is completely blinded while her mouth is wide open.

i'm not sure why everyone has such sad interpretations of this song. i DO think it's definitely about a couple who married too early (maybe he ran away from home?) and are both very depressed and trying to ignore their interpersonal problems, but i think it has a happy ending rather than a sad one. the girl is leading the boy out of the quiet room with a smile, which i don't think means she's divorcing him. i think she finally decided she wanted to save their relationship while he was just about to give up, so she cuts off the ribbon around his mouth-- and if you notice the one around her eyes comes off at the SAME TIME. and when he's about to say something, she covers his eyes, which i think is like her asking him to trust her, hence her still covering his eyes as she leads him out. also, he says something like "do you see what my tears brought?", making it seem like he was afraid of opening up emotionally, while she was clearly better at it and was the one who cried in front of him first while he was just willing to accept that he's unhappy but not do anything about it. this is probably because toxic masculinity means that men are generally less likely to want to cry and be vulnerable in front of others. this is really unorganized but i hope people agree! feel free to add your own details!

Rewatching this two years after that first time my meaning of this has changed. Im fully aware its supposed to be about a couple whos relationship is struggling but it feels more like two versions of me. One is little me, not knowing its okay to transition, still being traumatized by the people ive had to remove from my life. Two is current me, knowing that it still hurts and that things may never truly be okay, but that its getting better everyday and we just have to keep moving forward. The way the characters speak to each really reminds me of my old vs current mindset and its crazy.

I love this cover, I've had it on loop for an hour just drawing and I haven't gotten sick of it.

I know, I know, this was made 2 years ago and Rachie probably wont see this, but this cover which is probably about relationship issues is amazing.

The PMV is beautiful too, it really ties the strings to your voice.
I've been going through a bad time and your voice is so nice to listen too after spending a long day fighting depression, it makes me feel as-if my depression is non-existant.
ANYWAY, I really really really enjoyed this.

Oooh, while I'm here complimenting your vocals and etc of this song I'm going to compliment ''Once Upon A Me.''
Jeez, that song is SO good, you made it sound so well when the original song was in japanese, well, that goes for ALL your songs (I think)

Honestly you deserve more subscribers.

Anyway, back to 'Once Upon A Me', it felt a bit nostalgic to me? I liked it and VERYVERY happy belated birthday! (maybe i shouldve written this under Once Upon A Me)
Even if I wasn't included in the illustration, or wasn't who it was for (well, you do sing for your fans and I'd consider myself into that catergory) I felt listened too, and I think thats a hard thing to add into your vocals, yknow, making some people feel listened too (oh god, i hope im not the only one)

OKAYOKAYOKAYokayokay
right right, im on quiet room, i've already complimented it!.. and your voice MANY times.
HMMM,., lets talk about how much TIME was put into your covers.
It's obvious alot of time goes into it and its been paid off!

Although I could say a million things to compliment you, I don't think you'd like to read a novel of how much you're awesome (...unless?)
I'll wrap this up now.
Thank you for your videos, your covers, It helps me and possibly other people too, I honestly think I'd be in a grave if I didn't find these covers of yours haha, that sounds sad but its true.

THANK YOU RACHIE!!!! I know theres a possibility you'll see this... even if its very slim >.>
ALSO I DONT KNOW WHY I WASN'T SUBSCRIBED TO YOU BEFORE

The guy with the bandage around his mouth doesn't want to tell the girl that he no longer wants to continue their relationship together (they made a promise earlier in the relationship to stay together no matter what), so he keeps passively waiting and is miserable inside (his first part ends after the first chorus, and his second part begins when the balloons show up and ends after the balloon pop = he decides not to tell her). The girl with the bandage around her eyes knows that their relationship will come to an end, but she wants to remain blind to it and try to keep their relationship alive (plants). She eventually realizes that nothing is getting better and there is no hope in continuing a relationship they're both tired of. The guy won't admit the truth and end it off first however, so she decides to end the relationship for the both of them herself by leaving and setting them both free (her first part starts after the first chorus and stops when she recognizes they're tired of married life together, her second part starts after the balloon pop and ends with the rest of the song).
