It always seemed stupid to me what Oda did with respect to King's wings and his fruit. Why give wings to the Lunarian race if they were not going to be essential to fly? Why give him a fruit that can fly if the character has wings? one or the other is better.

For me, he must have given King a very different fruit, in general the one he had was more in the way, instead of contributing.

To think Zoro defeated that guy...

You can say what you want, I really thought it was really stupid that King defended Sanji Soba Mask's best attack with his hand like that, a typical strategy to give the impression that the character it's strong but usually ends up just generating plot holes.

zoro just have to fight the 1st commander of course, oda wasted a chance to show an epic aerial battle.

Zoro and sanji strength is about the same but here in this episode sanji looks way weaker compared to zoro. There isn’t a real scale on sanji development if he wasn’t able to damage king; basically, saying he still the same as 2 years gap that kinda sucks on sanji.

So how did he avoid being broken in two? Where do they show him getting back up?

This sequence was excellent, no doubt about it.
What ticked me off personally was that Luffy was like "i need to go help Sanji" and after having been interrupted by Big Mom, he proceeds outside to help Kin'emon instead.... trmendous writing
