I do think most of modern art is trash, but I'm German and in our language art and an artisan is directly adjacent to mastery.
For me it's very clear that a piece of art should at least strive for mastery just as you would want any item you buy to be made with care and intent. Modern art seems to only try to stoke a discussion or try to convey some form of message (if there is any is very debatable in most cases, basically intended bate). If a knife maker or a woodworker make something extraordinary, we as a society then don't go ahead and try to read absurd things into the design. Sure knife enthusiast still will have a long talk but they won't wildly disagree on what they declare to have decoded from the item.
While a picture for example lacks a direct use, it is still intended for decoration. I believe most modern art has even given up on looking good and can rarely show any sign of skill or mastery involved.

One of my hobbies is making digital collages. While I have a strong dislike of AI, I do use it to generate images which I incorporate into many of my collages. I've used it to generate images of a 'roided-up Donald Trump, usually dressed like a leatherman, holding/eating some of the nastiest sausages you can imagine, groping/making out with his daughter or Democrat politicians.

Personally I think there's a lot of class dynamics in play, as the professional artist crowd is seen by a lot of right-wingers as a product of a progressive liberal collegiate system they believe exists to destroy "American" culture, while they somehow see themselves as representative of the working class (makes no sense to me but whatever). I could easily imagine a lot of them thinking that the arrival ai-art means they're being liberated from the tyranny of art-school values, allowing them to create without needing to kowtow to liberal sentiment. A lot of ai-art is bad, to be sure—but to someone who thinks like this, the value judgements of what constitutes "bad art" is largely a product of taste-makers produced the very same elite systems they hate. Sure, the resulting art is arguably ugly, devoid of creative authenticity and repetitive, but it pisses off the libs, means you don't have to actually pay an art student (i.e. your ideological enemy in this worldview), is nearly free virtue-signaling for your tribal compatriots , and in the end what is bad art really anyway? It's all win-win to a certain sort of troll. Negative partisanship driving aesthetic abomination. We live in the worst timeline.

Their attitude to fine art is kind of replicated in their attitude to pop culture. They love to pretend they're all fans of Star Wars and The Witcher and Dune and all of those things, because those things have good reputations. But they don't understand them, they never have any remotely adequate knowledge of them (for people who pretend to be super-fans), they always come off like they've never read the books or played the games. I'm willing to beleive they have actually watched Star Wars, but i cant see how they could possibly have enjoyed it or paid very much attention. Most of their knowledge (and the things they complain about) are literally things they just looked up on Wookiepedia. And the Witcher books are woke af. Any right-wing fan who reckons they're a big fan of the original books is just deluding himself, i literally do not beleive they could possibly have read them.

I think that the left is pro-science, but not pro tech, because the tech industry has unethically commodified so much (such as the case with AI art). For the airplane picture, what tells me its AI is the placement of the wing on the one in the back just doesnt make sense, and the door on the front the people are being lined up to (in a heavily dystopian way i might add) is unusually forward of the plane. AI is the ultimate dream of a tyrant. The ability to force your reality on the masses. A machine that can flood every space with whatever information you desire, and do so faster than any person or collective of people can ever hope to keep up with. It will never question anything, never disobey, never hesitate, and never rest. A machine that, within a short time, can force society to either accept your reality, or have to spend their lives questioning reality at every turn.

It works effortlessly on the old and ignorant, it is embraced by those already willing to agree with it. Those that are able to recognize it must fight forever to avoid its traps and lies. The youngest are easily misled, their parents could never hope to keep up with the flood of material coming from every angle.

Funny thing is they actually have a semi valid argument against removing Of Mice and Men from the reading list. That book has one of the first good depictions of intellectual disability, and removing it for diversitys sake does come across as hypocritical on a surface level (even though i'd still say its warranted).
