Why You Should Still Get The Rift S

Still have my Rift S,i play time to time. Image quality is like yeah okay but ive been having a blast since 2019 so idc.Still good headset,aged like wine. wish you could upgrade the resolution a bit

I'm actually thinking of picking one of these up used/refurbished... I have gone through all 3 Meta Quests and I find that playing PC VR on them via the link cable is always really finnicky and glitchy, it only connects half of the time, sometimes Steam VR doesn't play nicely with it, it randomly loses connection and lags, and often has compression artefacts from sending the image down a USB cable instead of a display cable... And I find "standalone VR" just to not have good enough graphics... I figure one which is PC VR only should have a better and more reliable connection and behave better with Steam VR, right?

Just picked one up for $80. Worlds better purchase than the HP reverb despite the display/audio being worse, because unlike the reverb, the controllers don't feel like a 3rd party madcatz controller and the tracking isn't hot garbage. Tracking is almost comparable to quest 2, and the pcvr experience looks a lot better than virtual desktop for some really detailed games like Skyrim/fallout VR. I was wary of purchasing because of the aging software support, but was relieved when it turned out to be better supported and more straightforward to use than the reverb! For $80 I'm happy to have this hold me over until Valve releases another headset 10 years from now lmao

[HONEST] Please don't get a Rift s 🥲 it was solid in 2021, but then after all the oculus updates, it's just been giving me problems( controllers go flying in game sometimes, it's glitches are so nerve wracking, and it broke my heart when it just started stuttering mid game for no reason( I started using quest 2 with wifi and it still ran better)😢😢

Ordered one a couple days ago on ebay for £80, I'm pretty satisfied with the value and excited for it to arrive this week, I recently built a very capable PC and have been waiting to play Half-Life Alyx for a while. I did originally want to buy a Quest 2 or 3 but realised it was at least double the price while I only need PCVR.

Okay so the rift s. will work every time until the time it doesn't. Then you will have endless technical issues. and the issues will keep piling up until its unusable. Static camera screens and buggy controllers its sad to think i used to recommend this garbage. You could be playing anything from one hour to 5 mins before you lose all up and down tracking. what a waste of money and an absolute monument of why you should never invest in tech. I paid 400 for this junk on release. and now its nothing more than an ugly paperweight. Ill be getting a steam index because oculus is pure junk that will stop working after a couple of years at least the steam index will always be working and have reliable customer service. Ever since big brother zuckers has took over the rift s was pushed to the wayside and so where the pc gamers. What a pile of trash the rift s is in 2024 and if you buy one GOOD LUCK and i hope you are not quick tempered because this thing will bring out demons from your soul i swear. The whole idea of VR is to escape reality. The rift is will keep you firmly in the real world as you trouble shoot it seemingly since you open the box. On release this thing had NO issues and was AMAZING but now i laugh when it pops up saying critical error when it says there is not enough space on the drive when there IS so it wont update. The rift is and buying one was the biggest critical error that's the only critical error that's relevant. Buying a steam index at some point even though its overpriced and if that starts to pull this crap that ive had with oculus ill simply burn the damn thing like i burned my money buying it and never go VR again.

Still have mine from release. I love it. I dont need full body tracking or anything. Especially when I’m mostly playing retro flat screen to VR mods. I thought about getting the different Quests over the years, but ehh. Am I ever really going to use all those features? No. I play alone anyway. None of my friends have VR and dont plan on getting into it, so I just need enough for solo play. This works.

Which one should i go for? Rift S or Quest 2?

I got a used Rift S, for free. Works flawlessly, so great value LOL. (I wouldn't buy it, too old/risky in terms of software support)
A displayport cable has the benefit of a zero compression, zero delay video signal :D (for PCVR this provides great quality, wireless PCVR is sad)

switched from the quest 3 to the rift s for pcvr

Currently my daily driver. No complaints here.

the rift s is absolutely awful, software update bricked mine, then fixed it, then the proprietary cable broke (which you cant buy for under £100 anymore), meta are scammers, never buying a headset from them again

Do not BUY this, its horrible. The patended cable (which breaks first) is no longer obtainable. So you can buy this headset for 50$ but the cable is 150$. Maybe save up for another device ppl

Don’t get it, I’ve had constant problems with black screen with 3 constant loading dots.

I've had a Rift S since 2022. It's a great headset if you're getting into PC VR. A lot of people are reselling them for under $150. I do use rechargeable batteries for the controllers.
