Because of his captivating painting, The Banjo Player, painted in 1856, I've become fascinated with the work of William Sydney Mount. He was well-educated, loved painting the rural lifestyle of his native Long Island, New York home, and played fiddle and flute for gatherings and dances. Here are two tunes he's known to have played -- Pittsburgh Hornpipe and Uncle Ben's Favorite.
