Great work Matt.. Another one saved from the skip. Martyn from Vintage Amp Repair has done a few resto's on the Mk l & ll's and he gigs the pair of these (combos) he owns as well. Great amps when cranked up a bit. Thanks for sharing this repair and demo.
ОтветитьAdding extra ground from new filter caps hmmm..Doubt anything wrong with that vintage paper/oil can-cap
ОтветитьI recently bought a Fender Vibrolux Reverb amp that someone had cut in half and crudely made a head out of it. I had to buy a new handle, reverb tank, reverb cables, tube shields, corner protectors, a couple of knobs, Fender logo, along with all new electrolytics for servicing. I added a front grill panel with some leftover Fender style grill cloth and made a rear panel. When they cut off the bottom, the cuts weren't even square, so I fixed that on the table saw and re-sized the bottom panel to fit and put a 1/2" radius on it like Fender did. The only thing I've yet to do is install a bias trim pot in conjunction with the bias balance pot, but I don't have the proper resistor in stock. It sounds great thru a 2 x 10 or 4 x 10 cab and is insanely loud.
If interested you can see before and after photos on the Telecaster Discussion Page Reissue forum (TDPRI.com) under the thread title "NAD 1980 Vibrolux Reverb". I don't think I can put a link to it here.
Nice work - that hole in the floor was worrying me though !
ОтветитьDesigning and having circuit boards produced was complicated and expensive at the time. For a small company with little resources it would have made sense to instead have someone manually modify existing boards that were already in stock and paid for.
ОтветитьGreat bringing these old amps back to life !
