Lyrics:
Upon the crests of ancient waves
Under the sky, where Eärendil gaze
The shipwright, Círdan, guides his fleet
'Mongst stars afar, where sea and heavens meet
A chorus vast, beneath the moon's white glow
Voices entwine, where elvenkind doth go
History:
Círdan the Shipwright, eldest of the Teleri, was the keeper of the Grey Havens and master of the craft of the sea. Long had he dwelt by the shores of Middle-earth, where the sigh of the grey sea called him ever westward.
For years unnumbered had he been building vessels of white timbers to bear the weary to Eldamar. His eyes were deep with the wisdom of the ages, and his beard, silver as starlight, marked him among the eldest of the Firstborn.
In his heart remained the longing for the Undying Lands, though he tarried still.
