This is great!! I love my Wacom (‘whack-ohm’ in this house) and I’ve been using them off and on since like 2007… but man, the settings are hella finicky.
Just today I realized that Photoshop needs “pan/scroll” to be “scroll” for it to work correctly with my current Wacom because reasons. 🤷🏻♂️
1. I noticed on the models (intuos pro) - the pen tips wear out fast. On the older Intuos - they're just fine.
2. If you don't draw I really think the smaller tablets are better [even for dual screens] - as doing huge arm movements on big tablets- could really wear you off.
3. Unfortunately all batteries for wireless usage die quite fast, so you plug in constantly. Not so nice. (Connection is via 2.4Hz dongle. Not BT).
4. I can't tell if Huion is comparable to Wacom but I found a tiny model that could be portable to use with a laptop. Worth checking out + USB-C connection. H420X
5. I never use the modifier keys as my left hand is already on the keyboard OR the Contour Shuttle Pro V2 [you should check it, Chadwick].
I do zoom using a Wacom One. Just touch the tablet surface then hold click and move the pen. It works like this here.
Ответить😍🥰🥰Wacom Cintiq 22 is good for Davinci ?
ОтветитьExcellent. Many thanks. Really useful stuff.
ОтветитьOh thanks for doing this, looking forward to watching tomorrow.
ОтветитьFinally, a very good tutorial for those video editors wondering whether to switch to a tablet!
ОтветитьThank you
ОтветитьGreat overview as usual! I have an unrelated question, I noticed the volumes icons on your desktop showing the size and available space. Is this some addon or app or a macOS feature I am not aware of?
ОтветитьYeah with you on this but with one slight change in my setup, I use my Wacom in my left hand and my Trackpad in the right hand, been using a Wacom tablet forever hence the reason I also like the trackpad. I have exactly the same Wacom as yourself and a Mac setup. So a lot of what you are using the pen buttons for I am implementing with the trackpad. I am left handed but have no problem with the trackpad in my right hand I find using both very fluid and natural, also great in PhotoShop, Illustrator and Lightroom.
ОтветитьI tried it for a few hours didn’t like but maybe I just need to let it grow on me.
ОтветитьThe pandemic turned me into an FPS gamer. I don’t play as much anymore, but anything other than a mouse with a high polling rate is unusable to me now lol
ОтветитьCan’t believe your telling people turn touch off, it is the NO.1 reason why I have a Wacom tablet, I’ve bought them for the past 2 decades but only the ones with touch, as touch enables multi touch , this means I can use my fingers to scroll , zoom, drag, my fingers are right there holding the pen anyway. Cheap tablets don’t have touch & Wacom have removed touch from all their cheaper tablets like Ba,boo, forcing users like me to invest in more & more expensive tablets. lol you have touch & are turning it off, man your really missing out..
ОтветитьWait you said to whack what
ОтветитьI've had a Huion tablet for a couple years and never used it. I've been waiting for this tutorial. As the owner of a Micro Panel and and Speed Editor, I had always wondered what a tablet could do for me. It looks like Fusion will be the biggest beneficiary. Thank you for this tutorial.
ОтветитьReally like the snowman practice idea! The biggest challenge for anyone is trying to learn something new and not impact the real work timeline, great way to practice to build up speed and muscle memory!
ОтветитьI don't own a mouse Tablet all DAY! wacom bamboo works great for me small footprint.
ОтветитьThank you so much for this! ❤
ОтветитьThank you so much this was very helpful to see!
ОтветитьFinallyyyyy! I successfully hold the urge to holla at you at DVR FB group haha. thanks for this!
ОтветитьThank you so much for these tips. I was planning to buy one of these tablets <3
ОтветитьAlso my way to go. Wacom + speed editor. Needed one day to get comfortable. Now I'm so used to the comfort and the accuracy. Never going back
ОтветитьAwesome & Thanks :)
ОтветитьThanks, I did not know that this was all possible.
I started using Wacom tablets somewhere in 2001 or so for photo editing and love them since. I now mainly use a Wacom Cintiq 16" for drawing/painting. It's too big to be used as a regular tablet so I guess I have to start knitting a Christmas stocking that is big enough for the Intuos Pro M 😁
A long waited video from you. ❤ thanks so much. Perfect timing for me. Getting one to deal with fingers pain from 10+ hours per day editing. 😢 Hope will not miss my MX Master much. In the left hand I use Tourbox Elite controller while Speed Editor and keyboard being in the middle. All my stuff is wireless so preparing for a usb cable.. was hoping to use Intuos pro in BT mode but as you said should probably forget about it. Thanks for sharing your use cases. So appreciate it. 🙏
ОтветитьThanks Chadwick. I’ve been using XenceLab tablet but didn’t realize I could map it to Davinci
ОтветитьGreat tips and demonstration of tablets when working at DaVinci. I had trouble making a choice. Now this tablet inspires confidence. The hand from the mouse simply falls off after a long time of work when painting the material or creating mundane clicks and manipulations in Fusion
ОтветитьThe newer Huion and XP-Pen tablets have gotten so much better that makes them a very good choice considering the price vs Wacom and Xencelabs, so if money is an issue consider getting one of those. One thing to have in mind is Wacom Drivers are better than other brands and let you customize your experience a lot better. I also started with the Wacom Bamboo Fun and had it for a long time then I got the Wacom Intous Photo but it was to small so I changed to an XP-Pen Deco Pro and have been using it for over 3 years now it is quite good but today I’m getting a new Huion but this time I went for a pen display since I also do photo editing and photo composition and retouching and the precision of a pen display is much appreciated, I will try to video edit in this but who knows how that will go.
Ответитьplease keep going, you are great
ОтветитьI got an XPen tablet which seems really comparable to Wacom. Going to try this.
ОтветитьNot as fast as a mouse, sorry
ОтветитьFor those of us with poverty stock setups, is there anyway in resolve to increment attributes by 1? Example crop by 1 pixel at a time?
ОтветитьI have been using a tablet for editing since 2000 since we had a Quantel system at work, when we switched to Avid I kept using a tablet, but I don't know why, we were over 50 editors at the station for the French side, the English side ( were I worked for 30 years) the post prod side and I was the only editor using a tablet!!! They even said to keep one when I retired, obviously I didn't. My tablet is the same as yours, I can not edit with out it, like you I have pain in my hand with a mouse, I even went a step further and learned to use a mouse with my left hand, I'm pretty good at it now, OK I've been doing this for over 20 years, but I can't write, Using the power of the mouse with the left hand and the power of a tablet in the right is quite fast. But like you always say, we always have something to learn and I've learned a lot with your video, especially with the small wheel that I've never use. But for myself I've programmed 4 keys on my Wacom, since I despise using the in and out key, I have macros on all those keys to append or insert at the playhead where the preview is, then it return to the cut, add an audio mix and do a preview of the cut or insert I just did. This way I barely use the in and out in any edit, it was how I was able to edit a 2 minutes piece in 45 minutes at work, now my videos are WAY more involved than a new story so it takes me a lot more time.
ОтветитьThanks man!
Ответитьthat is INSANE!!!
awesome.
your tutorials is amazing keep it up
ОтветитьI have the XP-Pen deco pro. It seems to be pretty much identical in function to your Wacom. Only things I noticed was that Wacom has better monitor switching, Xp-pen has function switching for the ring and a built in touch pad for the odd application where using a pen doesn't work.
ОтветитьI love using a tablet for basic tasks. You just opened my mind to a whole new variety of functions. Thank you
ОтветитьThanks for sharing, I wanna try it right now~
ОтветитьIn conclusion if you do not making rotoscoping it is useless compared to the mouse
ОтветитьThank you!
ОтветитьGreat video! ❤ I know it’s flashy to have Resolve color panels but I find using the Wacom Medium so much better. Panels can become ergonomically awkward if you have to go back and forth between panels and the keyboard and mouse. Not the case with a tablet. I find all 3 can coexist without getting in the way.
ОтветитьHi man.. There's something on my Davinci, that I wanted to see if it's only on mine that has this, regarding the cut page because on mine, in the part of changing the speed of the clip, in the inspector, there is no option to ripple the timeline. Does anyone know how to activate
ОтветитьHello again. Thank you for responding to my previous comment. You mentioned upgrading from the regular intuos, to the pro version. Is there a big difference? What benefits does the pro version give you? Thanks again in advance.
Happy holidays!🎁
Been intrigued by adding a tablet to the workflow for awhile now. The initial learning curve is what always scares me away but I think I just gotta commit. Thanks for making this video.
ОтветитьThank you for this great video.
Just wondering how you got thoses colored folders in the Media Pool and more importantly how do you get a timecode window like you have, reminds me of Avid's and I am sure missing it
Too much movement just to use zoom in/out. Stick to a good mouse.
ОтветитьLOL Today I was actually thinking about getting a tablet, then YT throws this video in my feed. I switched from a regular mouse to a trackball mouse, which helped with my arm pain, but now it's in my thumb. One more thing to add to my shopping list!
