Luthen is the hero the Galaxy needs, not the hero it deserves.
ОтветитьLuthen was not a team player - if Luthen thought something needed to be done it was going to be done regardless of what anyone else thought. He would not fit into any kind of hierarchical structure anywhere but the absolute top and he was aware of this fact.
ОтветитьBecause the 'leaders' of the rebellion viewed Luthen as a threat to their power. Dont forget these were the senators who were responsible for the clone wars, gave Palpatine the power to form the Empire, the senators saw their power, money and influence slipping away so latched on to something they can get all that back.
These Leaders of the Rebellion were not elected to the leadership they seized it, they never fought on the frontlines they gave money and expected to then be in charge of it all. It is telling that after the Empire fell these Rebel leaders then became the leaders of the new Republic like they wanted, they then went on to mess that up by running it with corruption like before.
Conventional military resistance is prefered because you can have legitimacy and follow rules of war and take prisoners. A guerrilla resistance does not have that luxury. The goal for any guerilla should be to resists enough a legitimate military can take over the fighting. IE france & holland resistance in ww2.
ОтветитьLuthen is the inconvenient marxist among liberals and anarchists. But unlike that Nemik, who represents somebody more like trotsky, Luthen is a man like Lenin. And Cass is more like a young Stalin.
ОтветитьMaybe there is already a Luthan in China that is trying to bring down the CCP, lot of intrestring events happening over there
ОтветитьHes the guy that you want and is willing to do the dirty work while the clean cut and pressed people like Mon amd Bail are the face of the movement it really takes both sides
Ответить“We die in the dark so that you may live in the light.”
ОтветитьDid you remix the song from the wedding?
ОтветитьThe Ghorman genocide would have happened with or without Luthen. They would have had to be exterminated or forcefully relocated, as it's implied the the planet will be rendered virtually uninhabitable by the mining project. Cassian and Luthen don't know this until later when they understand the true intention behind the Imperial actions there. The Empire didn't have the patience to get rid of the Ghor peacefully.
ОтветитьThe British sacrificed a ship in order to maintain the secrecy of breaking Germany's code. US goes to war against Germany in WWII and sacrificed thousands of soldiers on the beaches intentionally in hopes that a few would get through. How many times have hundreds/thousands innocents die to save millions? Who makes that decision? Folks who are willing to sacrifice their humanity to ultimately save millions/greater good. Luthen as a character was perfect: he was a flawed character and the speech Gilroy gave him in S1 Ep 10 was perfect.
ОтветитьHold on, the IBS spy on Organa’s system was Lonnie’s agent. So Luthen probably fed info to Lonnie to boost his status
ОтветитьLuthen...the man whose crew executed the general's wife and young child on Aldhani. Do you think maybe this is why folk thought he was a vile nutcase?
ОтветитьIt was really Kleya who ran things. Luthen was erratic, but a visionary, capable of making decisions that did not play by "Rules", since the Empire can't be defeated by playing that game. In this he was very much like Saw Gerrera - they both understood that Rebellion is a dirty game. Resistance to Occupation and Empire is ugly (ask Hamas). The problem with all the Senators who were part of the "formal" Rebellion is that they didn't really want to rebel. Mothma and Organa were starting to figure it out, but were still deluding themselves with the notion that Palpatine could be negotiated with, his power reigned in by "Diplomacy". We saw this naivety play out when Mothma saw the ISB agent and the ISB plant Kloris shot in front of her. She had no idea of the "Real" Galaxy - despite all her fine words and ideals, she lived in a world of luxury, fine clothes, banquets and mansions. Clueless Virtue Signalling.
The other Senators were even more of a waste of space. I wonder if we don't see them again after Rogue One because they went scurrying back to Coruscant to betray the Rebellion and General Draven realised that "Executive Action" needed to be taken (Yes, I know they're prequels but it's the kind of thing the makers do to hint at something like that - I don't recall any other Senator figures around at ROTJ).
So Luthen is resented because he represents the ugly underbelly of fighting a guerrilla war against a massive Superpower. He disturbs the vacuous sensibilities of Senatorial life and they also resent him because they see themselves as the Republic Government in Exile - a privileged sense of self importance they imagine to still be relevant - a delusion underlined when Palpatine dissolves the Senate as soon as the Death Star is ready to enforce the Grand Moff regime.
Obviously Luthen has crossed many red lines and used people, but they all knew what they signed up for, so although they see his faults, his spies/agents defend him when he is rebuked by these phoney "Authority" figures. It's clear Cassian doesn't think much of the Senators, but starts to gain respect for Mothma as she wakes up to the reality of what Rebellion is really about - an unspoken acknowledgement that Luthen was right - if the Galaxy had not been pushed with his Provocateurism and the sabotage and raid tactics of his agents and associates, the creeping authoritarianism would have just suffocated the resistance out of everyone eventually. I wonder if Luthen sensed there was something the Empire needed on Ghorman - after all the planet's economy had no visible use - so he figured that he should get the Empire to show its hand and make Martyrs of the Ghorman People instead of them being quietly deported below the radar - off to Slave Labour camps somewhere.
When Luthen kills Lonnie Jung, it's not because he was trying to protect himself. It's because he knew they were both dead men. When he made the decision to eliminate Lonnie, he was also giving up hope on himself. All that mattered was getting Jung's Intel to the Rebellion. That's why he went back to the Shop and forbade Kleya to do so, because he knew the ISB were coming and he hoped he could erase everything in time. (Why he didn't use a bomb, I don't know - probably because his love for the shop's antiques and the history and culture they represented was part of what he was fighting for). That's some of my thoughts on the matter anyway.
Luthen was not just a accelerationist, he was also a unionist. Committed to a united rebel groups.
Which only makes the alliance's later rejection of him so painful. Politician's with no clue of the history of the rebellion, making BS statement that serve only themselves...
Politician's who will later say NO to fighting against the Death Star because they took the easy path.
I always assumed Mon and Luthen were their own Bail and Ahsoka, but instead of being only an intelligence force, Luthen handled Mon’s side of the rebellion making Axis Mon’s rebel cell, as she funds him, and we don’t really see her doing rebel things aside from that in the show. This would make sense as Mon is under supervision from the Empire and can’t directly do as much, so she has to shift the runnings of the rebellion to Luthen, who then plans, organises and recruits, and makes connections to other rebel cells through supplies and information, alongside stuff like aldani
ОтветитьLuthen’s tactics to start the rebellion in the hope of overthrowing the empire are very similar to Palpatine’s tactics to start the clone wars in the hope of overthrowing the republic. Andor is Luthen’s agent and assassin. Maul was Palpatine’s agent and assassin.
ОтветитьIn a time where Star Wars Theory is a hack, I am glad we have you.
ОтветитьOnly a small, select group of clowns hate Luthen.
ОтветитьAndor was a cook when he served in the military. Just like the force lady.
In rogue one, andor says "I've been in this fight since I was six years old!"
He also tells luthen he was on the ground during some battle, and luthen corrects him and says "you worked in the kitchen, not in the field" basically.
He literally just exaggerates a bit sometimes. Consistently.
Love this show man.
Hey Allen, I am re-watching clone wars and just watched season 3 episode 6 "the academy" where the aristocrat dutchess arrested a democratically elected senator for in the name of stopping "corruption." This whole episode seems to assume that the audience is so dumb they won't notice the hypocrisy in this act. Help me rectify this episode in a way that makes sense.
ОтветитьLuthen is just an exposer of what the Empire really is despite its spin PR using more extreme means. If the Empire is not he think it is, his methods won't generate such a rebellion movement. But because he is right, his effort paid off.
ОтветитьI read a quote, somewhere... And i have to paraphrase... But basically: people prefer to see a hero fail, then see a pragmatist succeed.
Luthin was the original pragmatist; consemned to use the weapons of his enemy, in order to succeed. Makes him egfective, but hardly popular.
I was just wondering Why Luthen didn't just pour the rest of the acid on the radio and jump in the ship it was connect to the antique shop you see him walk through a door that opens directly to the shop. Luthen already has the Intel from Lonnie he's told Kleya the Intel in case dies are you going to tell me that all the steps ahead of the ISB and the rest of the empire Luthen was that his antique shop isn't rigged with explosives in case the ISB came knocking of course it was Deedra didn't know Luthen was in the back of the shop Luthen could pour the acid quickly destroying the radio and the crystals then arm the explosives remotely jump in his ship and get the hell out of dodge or I'm sure Luthen and Kleya had a place to meet up on coursant in case something like this scenario happens or Luthen knew that Kleya was very capable of getting off world on her own and meet on another planet. I understand that Luthen didn't want to chance Kleya getting captured but it just struck me weird that a man like Luthen who is always 10 steps ahead and always plans every detail meticulously and who always builds his exit when he comes in did heed his own advice. I know why he had to be killed off cause he's not in Rogue One or the OT i just wIsh they would have done it a way more fitting to how the character was portrayed.
ОтветитьTo me, Luthen is the embodiment of the scen where we are introduced to Andor in Rogue One. The hero(Andor) killed a guy because he couldnt escape. I remember leaving the theater loving the movie but questioning the decision to make some Rebel members so heartless. Watching this show and looking at history, I see that the Alliance doesn't get off the ground without that. Luthen is a necessary evil, one that he recognizes to Lonnie in his amazing monologue in season 1
ОтветитьFor a second I read the title as "Why everyone hates Leffen" and I was ready for some juicy FGC drama slop. But I do really like Andor.
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
Luthen did the dirty work needed he knew that even if he somehow were to survive to see the fall of the Empire, he would have been killed, as his continued existence would be too big of a threat to a nascent New Republic. He's the kind of person that historians bring to light ten years after the fact, if at all. He's not a "good" person, a good person wouldn't be so quick to have loose ends tied- permanently. But the Rebelion needed a bad person in the shadows to get these things done, and he chose to be that person.
ОтветитьI am Generation Tech!
ОтветитьI find it ironic that Owen didn't want Luke to follow Obi Wan on some idealistic crusade. But in many ways Cassian followed Luthan on his own idealistic Crusade that ended with both of them dying. Both worked for a sunrise that neither of them would see. For each Luke you will have many Cassians but the idealistic crusade is the same. The Legend of Skywalker was built on the actions of people that are never heard of and in this case are usually left in the shadows. The quiet professionals that do that which is necessary to ultimately lead to a victory. There were no medals presented for Cassian and Luthen.
ОтветитьDo you think that Mon Mothma took a more pacifist approach with the New Republic defense because of her experience with Luthen?
ОтветитьI should like amd comment more because I enjoy these videos. Is there a technical in universe reason why they all fly luke plabes in space?
ОтветитьI thought about this, Lutnen must have chosen Mon to be the next phase of his rebellion if it is successful long time ago. A true heart , naive as she is, she belives there is a better way and that is what Luthen wants more then anything.
ОтветитьBenjamin Bratt was an excellent replacement for Jimmy Smits as Bail.
ОтветитьKreia vs Luthen - who’s more revolutionary?
ОтветитьThe Empire is sounding a lot like the Trump regime.
ОтветитьThe ends justify the means. Luthen will sacrifice everyone and everything to ensure the empire goes down. No matter how many bodies it takes.
That mindset gets results but it's also one that may eventually lead to "preventative measures" after the war is over, which an idealist like Mon Mothma, who believes in rules of engagement and protecting the innocent woukd see as barbaric
Luthen's tactics, while effective on a individual basis also run risk of galvanizing the opposition and neutral forces. If you gun down 50 civilians to ensure you kill 500 stormtroopers you have now ensured those 50 civilians families will not have thr best opinion of you and may side with the empire. And those stormtroopers families will be told about the massacre from their point of view. Where the rebels massacred 500 brave soldiers and 500 civilians. Because the truth doesnt matter ti the empire, the message does.
Edit: I should disclaim that I am 100% on the side of the rebels, the empire is truly evil and needs to be destroyed.
I am not defending the empires actions in anyway.
What I am stating is that "the ends justify the means" is a dangerous philosophy that can lead to some of the worst crimes imaginable and even make things harder for you and your allies
GOAT Lutnen!....✨✨✨✨✨
ОтветитьLuthen is Hades incarnate... takes the confession of Lonni, a damned soul who does not know he is already dead, and carries out his long execution. His daughter, a Melinoë-like figure... the Rebellion, Persephone itself.
ОтветитьBecause he was simultaneously better and worse than they were at any given time
ОтветитьLove the content God bless
Ответитьsame reason they all hated Saw! mfers hate when you DO shit
ОтветитьLuthen did what the leaders don’t want to do, he got dirty so those after can stay clean
He made the rebellion hate him so he could justify to himself what he does
To paraphrase another agent. "No, I am not going to live there. There is no place for me there. I am a Monster. What I do is evil, but it must be done." Luthen, COULD not go to Yavin. He COULD not walk to the promised land. It was not for him and he was not for it. But what he did was for IT. Thanks for the video.
ОтветитьAnd Stellan Skarsgård brought Luthen Rael to us in such superb fashion it is hard to imagine someone else being able to deliver such a rich character as he did. Great directing yes, but great acting is so hard to find.
ОтветитьThe "rebels" from the imperial Senate just latched on as they needed somewhere to be political and palpatine had given them the boot. What did they accomplish? The crap show that was the new Republic? Let the first order come to power? Good job!
ОтветитьTbh I was expecting him to be the cause of the massacres
Ответить
