Hannibal's main mistake was that he did not attack the capital, Rome, when it was at its weakest, which confirms that the capital is the heart that must be attacked first and foremost.

Hannibal was the greatest general, IMO. No one else, including Alexander the Great, Cesar or Napoleon, for exemple, had to face so many adverse conditions than him

Hannibal really needed that Agrippa like right hand man. Just like Napoleon, they had few competent lieutenants and commanders who could succeed when he wasn't present.

Hannibal was impressive but what a roster of generals he and Carthage were up against. Marcellus, Calvus, Fabius, Gracchus, Laevinus, G. Nero, M. Septimius, Scipio, Laelius, Silanus. There were plenty of bad Roman generals of course but those mentioned truly led the first charge of Roman imperium over the entire Mediterranean, which lasted for 600 years.
