Hannibal's main mistake was that he did not attack the capital, Rome, when it was at its weakest, which confirms that the capital is the heart that must be attacked first and foremost.

One general brought terror to Rome Hannibal, but unfortunately he did not have the support of the foolish elders of Carthage If Hannibal had been born in Rome he would have been a better ,A great general like him was under the control of fools.

Hannibal was the greatest general, IMO. No one else, including Alexander the Great, Cesar or Napoleon, for exemple, had to face so many adverse conditions than him

You gotta wonder what Hanno II was thinking when he essentially ensured the destruction of Carthage thanks to his antics. Would it not be better for a powerful ruler of your new city than to have your democracy of nothing but burned-out ruins?

Hannibal really needed that Agrippa like right hand man. Just like Napoleon, they had few competent lieutenants and commanders who could succeed when he wasn't present.

Hannibal was impressive but what a roster of generals he and Carthage were up against. Marcellus, Calvus, Fabius, Gracchus, Laevinus, G. Nero, M. Septimius, Scipio, Laelius, Silanus. There were plenty of bad Roman generals of course but those mentioned truly led the first charge of Roman imperium over the entire Mediterranean, which lasted for 600 years.

Awesome breakdown of the Carthage-Rome showdown in 215 BC! The internal squabbles in Carthage holding back Hannibal’s reinforcements while he’s tearing it up in Brutium and Nola are wild. Marcellus standing firm and Rome’s naval push really turned the tide—loved how you captured the back-and-forth chaos and shifting alliances!
