I wonder how many of these "affairs" were really sexual harassment?

Sorry. This read to me as the life of a callous, selfish, exploitative, self-serving nightmare of a woman. Using and discarding coworkers? Cold. Abandoning her first born? Icy - although maybe she did her daughter a favor there. The only part of this story that didn't give me the ick is that she didn't abort the product of her adulterous affair. Otherwise - shudder.

Her cancelation/blackballing came about for one reason only. Money. She had a very European outlook, so she didn't try to hide anything about the affair or the pregnancy. In American culture that was a huge no no at that time. So, the ppl who canceled her/separated themselves from her did so because they knew the American ppl would cancel them too. Their careers were in just as much jeapordy. It was always about the bottom line, not their personal beliefs or feelings on the subject. As you said many of them were involved in much worse behavior. Ironically my favorite Bergman film is Indiscreet.

The outrage wasnt over her leaving her husband, actresses did that all the time. The outrage was over leaving her daughter. Same reason people turned agaisnt Elizabeth Taylor when she stole Debbie Reynolds' husband (and I don't know why she wanted him, he was a weak character) there were babies involved. The US later "forgave" Elizabeth by giving her the Oscar for a terrible film, as she herself thought, becaaue Elizabeth got quite ill and almost died.

She was not EVIL! She was an actress. One usually finds that the moralizers are often less moral than the people they excoriate. Relax, it's just image and vanity. In real life, everyone said what a fun person she was. No one is perfect and we all make mistakes. At least, she took responsibility for hers and blamed no one else. These days, that's rare and admirable.

She left her first daughter with her first husband a Swedish dentist and the poor girl only saw her mother when she brought her to Italy to act as a babysitter for her Italian children. She dumped her first daughter. She was a piece of human garbage.

Now wait a minute, your bias is showing. You paint Ingrid's husband Peter as being a gold-digger because he stayed married to a woman who would rather sleep her way through the social scene of Hollywood then be a wife.
If my husband slept around on me to the extent that she whored around in Hollywood I would take his money, look the other way and build a life with our child.
Yes there was and is a double standard. But, as you well know, two wrongs do not make a right.
After hearing of all of the incredible number of affairs, rampant drug use, child labor tragedies and drunken orgies that prevailed in Hollywood, and as it is an industry that feeds on appearance and self-glorification and glamorizes and rewards incredible vanity, I would have to say that his attitude towards Hollywood was not one of fear but one of disgust and I believed him totally justified in trying to distance himself, his wife and most certainly his child from the influence of such a culture.

I've always loved to hear Ingrid and her daughter Isabella speak. I love their accents.🙂

Minor pronunciation corrections ---

"For Whom the Bell Tolls" (sounds like "rolls")

Alan Burgess (sounds like "berjess")

"Gaslight" (not gas lit) which is one of my favorite movies.

Her daughter Isabella Rossellini looks a lot like her, but Isabella's fraternal twin Ingrid, doesn't favor either of them, to me.
Her first child, Pia Lindstrom looks like her dad, to me. I don't think her son Robin Rossellini looks like either of his parents.

Mentioning Cary Grant... he's one of my absolute favorite actors... great in comedic and serious roles, and easy on the eyes. 🙂

EVIL? what planet are you on? Put down the crack pipe, honey. She is a soul like all of us. She grew up without parents. She was a gifted actress naturally; and not at all evil. Where do you get your idiotic judgment of our classic stars, because your research is spotty at best. Go live in LA for years and meet people in the film industry ---the TRUE stories of these stars are legend and show that they are just people like us. You're not a journalist; if you were, you would do these pofcasts with facts and no opinion.

But I haven't seen anything that made her evil. She was evil bcuz she wasn't a doormat to her husband and cheated on him? Every dude in the world needs a woman like that. 😆 Not a moronic woman being a devoted wife. It's just plain stupid to be loyal and not cheat on a messed-up patriarchal man.
