I thought there were math placement exams. Prove what you know, then you can start at a specific math course.
ОтветитьWow politicians at it again aoc special if you can pour a drink (bartender) get to be a politicians and become a millionaire figure it out with calculus aka corruption
Ответить$$ fail or pass. Just need the students
ОтветитьMy opinion A C should not be passing for some classes.
ОтветитьMight as well just make it faster and enroll them immediately into advanced calculus.
ОтветитьWhat's calacamus?
Ответитьnow you must able to count to 10 😂
ОтветитьEconomics is more important...debt=no government forgiveness 😅
ОтветитьMaybe they should focus on business math classes instead of college algebra.
ОтветитьTerrible idea. This is just lowering the requirements to get kids into Calculus that aren't prepared. If they need remedial courses, that's because they weren't prepared in K-12. That is where the problem should be addressed.
ОтветитьThose who made that law have to go over the bridge built by engineers who does not know basic arithmetic…
ОтветитьSeems like they should focus more on high school standards than college.
ОтветитьWhy don’t we just sign everyone up for Olympic Pole Vault while we’re at it?
Of course there’s attrition, you’re talking about all of the students who never mastered high school math and are trying to devise schemes to turn them into STEM majors in college. Why?
Lol more equitable? Study, work hard! A hand out wont help.. it will hurt you!!
ОтветитьThe majority of STEM jobs never use Calculus. Requiring Calculus for computer programming is useless
ОтветитьWay to go... setting more people up for failure in life... making certain that California never runs out of minimum-wage workers.
Ответить"Equitable and inclusive" just means lowering standards and quality, while discriminating against those more able and hardworking. It's a race to the bottom, turning what should be institutions promoting excellence into institutions of mediocrity and dysfunction.
ОтветитьIn the words of Mr. Incredible, math IS math. Just because you don’t like the outcome doesn’t change it. The lower classes help to create a strong base.
ОтветитьKids are not learning math in high school. This is why the remedial classes are being required in community college. They need to test for learning disabilities with math if a student can’t pass algebra after taking the remedial classes.
ОтветитьTLDR. To meet the standards, we need to lower them.
ОтветитьAll these people care about is enrollment and graduation rates. They dont care if you graduate with a useless degree.
ОтветитьI would love to know the research on why these students are behind to begin with. Was their secondary education sufficient to prepare them for college level courses. If not, why not.
ОтветитьThe logic here is atrocious. Those students are in remedial courses and not moving forward with degrees for the dame reason they are in remedial courses - they are not good in math and aren't studious in general. Everyone is not automatically inclined towards or can always be successful in either. Let me guess the next step, lowering the curve for calculus and stem courses. Even students that toom prereqs to prepare them struggle.
ОтветитьUsually, politicians are bad in Math. It is not going to work. How could a student who is weak in Algebra and Trigonometry and take Calculus altogether and pass? For the past years, here in a Community College of Massachusetts, basically all deans of STEM know nothing about STEM, their degrees are education, and they are bad in Math.
ОтветитьInstead of taking responsibility and fixing the poor education those kids are getting K-12 just advance them forward regardless. Do we ever hear about legislation to fix K-12 so kids meet requirements? nope
ОтветитьThe truth is that it’s too late for most of these kids or they simply don’t have the aptitude to study and work in a STEM field. Community colleges should not be wasting this much effort on remedial math.
ОтветитьThis is for the 13% of the population.
ОтветитьSo advance unqualified people over the qualified ones. That is equity
ОтветитьThis is so bad! Do you think other competitive countries lower their bar for education?!
ОтветитьThey would never do this in China. DEI only leads to mediocrity. Result? China wins...
ОтветитьMoney🤨
ОтветитьWANTING a STEM degree isn't enough to qualify you for Calculus. You need to have prerequisites. Yes, it will take you longer, and rightfully so! If you goofed off in high school and don't have what you need for calculus in your first semester, then it's time to reevaluate your course of study.
ОтветитьSo they'll wink, wink help you pass 😂
ОтветитьIf they cant do it, they should fail
ОтветитьEqual outcome is not the goal. These clowns can't tell the difference between equal opportunity and equal outcome.
ОтветитьCalifornia... lowering the standards yet again. When will they learn?
ОтветитьMaybe they need to go to trade school instead🤷♂️
ОтветитьNo , you have to start somewhere and you need remedial math and algebra to understand and apply Calculus formulas.
The students that come from disadvantaged/ low income backgrounds need to have more MONEY to pay their bills. If you give them money to only pay their bills then they have way more time to do good at Calculus
This is not going to work.
ОтветитьDrumming down education is never a good thing
ОтветитьHow about you just give us all an engineering degree and skip the class altogether?
Why waste all that time....geez!
My state of California is so stupid. All in the name of "inclusivity"
F that. Let only the real smart one get there.
US students are far behind other countries that's the truth like or not and most of their math should have been done in High School before they went on to College
ОтветитьI had to take a test for my math placement at a California Community College. Don’t dumb down the requirements. It sounds like the problem is in high school.
ОтветитьThe problem is that in elementary, jr high, and high school kids are just passed along, affecting them later in college. It seems like teachers are afraid to fail students who deserve to fail.
ОтветитьCommunity college is new high school.
ОтветитьImagine if they said “we are going to dumb down the path to becoming a doctor or a nurse so that we can make it more equitable for everyone…” SMH!
ОтветитьDumbing down the curriculum? Seriously? 🤦🏿♂️
ОтветитьLower the standards, that is a great way to go
Ответить
