Train Your Cat to Let You Sleep

My cat has worked how to open all the doors in the house and now he opens my room door 😢😢

my mom is about to kill me if i dont get my kitten to sleep at night so ill be trying this hopefully tonight

I just adopted a new kitten. 3 months old, I fed him around 7;30 and he had some more at 10ish I'm trying to train him for now to sleep in his bed in the bathroom because I can't have him in my bedroom at night, but he's crying so much and I'm worried. What do I do?

Sleep deprived for 3 nights. My cat wakes up at 4 every morning meowing and scratching at my door to let in. I don’t freed food and I do feed her in conjunction with play but she’s only 4 months and have lots of energy. The uh prong part is the hardest.

I leave food out for my cat. She goes to sleep with me everytime I lay down. She doesn't disturb me. I give her wet food twice or three times a week. Not having any issues at all. She plays when she wants, I also play with her every now and then. When she want to be loved, she jumps into my lap. I don't have those issues.

JACKSON HELP! I rise at 0430, breakfast for my girl. I have 9 hour days at nursing school. Literally not allowed to leave or we fail. I work 10 hour night shifts in a nursing home on my "days off". When I come home, I sleep, but I keep to her feeding schedule. Can I do better? She display aggression when I come home so I spend am hour or so wearing her out. Just don't want to starve or free feed her.

Just been through night 2. She started waking me up meowing and scratching from 3am to 7… rewatching this to gain some hope in the process while I get ready to work with basically no sleep

So...my medicine schedule is circa 4:00 a.m. (because that is my personal human circadian rhythm), noon, then circa 8:00 pm. Special treatment for cats perhaps at 4 and 8 then auto-feed dry food at noon? I usually have a helper if I am away for a day or two to take care of them in my home, but do try to get them used to some dry food in case I need to leave overnight without coverage...rarely happens, but back-up plan.

If the dog is not in crate or/and in bedroom then she will let me know when kitties start going even when they don't bug me in the morning.

It’s not that easy lately with my 15 1/2 year old cat. He wines and wines and jumps back and forth over me on the bed for hours! What else can I do or say to make him stop?

Ignoring them is the best you can do at night - trust Jackson and me, cats are smart, they adapt :)

That's a great idea, but I sleep on my lazyboy couch and the little stinker kitty knocks things off the coffee table until I wake up. She will go so far as to knock the Kleenex off and pull it all out of the box to get my attention. Then she moves on to the lamp table to chew on the lampshade and knock Alexa on the floor. I will try ignoring her. Maybe I can find a box to put everything in at night...laugh if you must. I have never had a cat behave this way.

I don’t know where he obtained his “cat” knowledge but I certainly wouldn’t use it to manage my cat’s life.

My cat Mia goes to my side table with her pow drops all the things in my side table in the floor to make noise and I get up when she goes to my perfumes to drop in the floor

I know they need more play time. The laser pointer broke.
I know I shouldn’t cave when my cat screams and slams herself against the bedroom door when I close it and she’s outside. But it sounds bad.
I know I should have a nighttime routine so they know it’s time to sleep. I know I should go to the doctor for sleeping pills so I’m not awake at 3am.

No bc my cats literally won’t even play. They just meow for food. And so i feed them, then play, then they’re exhausted, then they sleep and then they wake me up at night and i ignore them every time. And this is repeating every day of my life.

Thank you. I just adopted a senior cat 2 days ago, and she was doing that meowing in the middle of the night. I am going to put your process into play. Thanks, again. I now have a solution. Fortunately, I'm a retired senior, so I don't have to rush off to a job.

Well, I was a VERY successful pet trainer - up to now! I met my challenge and I am not winning - yet!I just watched the video „how to get my cat to let me sleep“. I have one cat who lets us do that: peaceful, quiet, adjusted, night friendly 3 y/o female Tabby.
But then there is: adorable, 8 month old, pitchblack , male Felix. At 3:45 am his night is over!
I will go the route of last pm feeding hour and ignoring his morning call. Will let you know how it goes.

Cat has been waking up at 3am like you say... do you suggest feeding at that time if it is done from an automatic timed feeder? Or no food during the night? Pls help lol

But if I wake up my mind and body tell me I have to get up and go to the bathroom even if I don’t really have to. I can’t go back to sleep unless I do 😭

In order to train my kitten to sleep at night, I bought a Large foldable playpen off Amazon to put her in at night when I go to bed. I put a separate litter box in it so it's different from her daytime one, I put her bed, and some water and a bit of dry food. This way she learns that night time is for sleeping :)

My cat comes in every morning at 230am like clockwork….. but she’s also very old and I wonder if she’s going senile because she meows all. The. Time.

My cat wakes me up by "playing" with my hair. It hurts and it's hard to ignore. If I close the bedroom door he meows for ages. Anyone else dealing with this ?

I did what you advised. It ended up ending the relationship between my cat Willow, and his son,TicTac. Turns out TicTac has anxiety relating to food. I could not believe the all-out attack that TicTac launched at his father. This was a total knock-out, end all frenzied blitz attack. Fortunately I was there. I picked up their rather large water dish and dumped the contents onto TicTac. This habende twice. Not, three years on we have had to keep these two cats totally separate. Willow is I very gentle and does not fight back. TicTac is very affectionate with me but now sees his father as a fatal competitor.

It's 3:17am. New kitten. She ...squeak-howls?

I work all day! All my cat does from about 10a-4p is sleep. So then I come home at 530 and expect him to sleep again from 10-6? I can’t play with him enough to make him that tired! Lol but I don’t care what he does during the night. My home is his. But I cannot keep getting up every 30 mins to let him in/out. The only time he isn’t meowing is when I sit outside with him! (Which ain’t gonna happen at 2am!)

My cat literally will try everything to get me up! Biting my ears my fingers, now nibbles my thighs under the blankets. Kawabunga my head! Scratching at everything! Opening draws, ripping my plants up! The most hideous, was taking a poop on my pillow! Wtf. 😢

I know this post is 10 years old but we are currently doing this with our cat. PROBLEM: WHEN HE IS IGNORED HE POOPS ON HIS CAT TREE AND UNDER THE DINING TABLE 😢😢😢

With all the meowing, chirping, throwing my glasses and stuff on the floor, and jumping on the doorknobs it's gonna be super tough to ignore him but I'll do my best lol 😂
