Lithium batteries are starting to be superseded by other chemical element batteries; it's a question of pro's and con's. Lithium gives high capacity, low-density with rapid charge-discharge capability at the price of being volatile. R & D are producing alternates that, while still expensive and bulky are safe. Quick-charging ubiquity, charge rates and standards are still the main obstacles.

If the EU can concede to the obvious fact that the EU is not competitive at all at producing what it needs to meet its climate goals, then it can start to acknowledge and embrace the need to establish a proper relationship with the one country that is extremely good at it.

The only reason why the EU cannot follow this simple kindergarten logic is its geopolitical stupidity. Your stupid leaders would rather have the EU shoot itself in the foot again and again... for what exactly?? Global entertainment?

And enough with the 'overcapacity' nonsense. That's like blaming Usain Bolt for his overcapacity of muscle performance. It is a comical denial of the fact you are too damn lame to compete.

Instead of investing in mining. The EU should invest in recycling. There's probably already a higher concentration of lithium the in waste bin than in the ground.

There is also problems nobody in EU / Europe wants to do dirty production so we let all poor countries with BAD HSE pratice do the diry work. Sad but true.

I think the reason for this video is because northvolt, a power battery manufacturer that pooled subsidies from all EU countries and invested US$14 billion, went bankrupt. This may be the largest government-subsidized enterprise in human history. But this video makes no mention of this at all,

Very interesting to see that Europeans reject mining within Europe (citing pollution) - considering the mining (and polluting) activities of European-owned companies in the continent of ALKEBULAN - even when the mining rights are given to companies from other continents, Europeans can still buy stocks/shares there too. Hmm, hypocrisy hmm...

Portugal has plenty of lithium reserves. But locals will have to get compensated to accept the mining, as it should.
The EU really needs to catch up on the battery industry, it’s essential for its economic future.

All those against mining and such I can fully understand, but if in the end the whole economy suffers, which it is already but we have no idea how bad it will become in the near future, these mines and refineries and battery factories will be build and people against them now will change their minds when their standard of living is going down the drain. realpolitik

Lithium is only one part of energy solution, and battery don't work well in cold weather.
A decent domestic lithium supply in Europe is good, but I think the EU need a holistic set of solutions on different energy sources and storages (e.g. US' hydrogen shot, SMR).
