gonna look at you as a mentor, hearing you speak of your experiences is really helpful as someone who will start their degree in DS. good shit

oh wow.... I remember watching you a bit when I was still in college getting my degree in data science. Right now, I just happened to see this video so randomly recommended to me and I just graduated... Perfect timing! lol

Welcome back Priya. Are you thinking about doing a PhD for astrophysics? I have yet to get my bachelor’s in physics and am thinking of going to grad school after I graduate.

Glad you're back from hiatus haha! Here for all of it and your new insights ... I met you at Brandeis a couple years ago btw during parents weekend randomly where we chatted a bit and shared how insightful n great I found your channel to be whilst doing my MS in CS in ML/AI at time, as I have an Astrophysics undegrda background as well

You should definitely feel grateful, a lot of us wish we were in your position rn. I'm also a physics graduate from a top school and I'm about to be 12 months unemployed next month. I've been trying to break into data science since my sophomore year and haven't even been able to land a simple analyst job. I wanna say your videos have helped me in interviews tho I've gotten to the last round of multiple interviews but something always happens at the last minute (hiring freeze, ghosted, etc.)

Most Data Science work no longer makes sense- predictive models no longer actually predict anything, they just reveal certain information.
That's why we need Business Scientists- people who use Data Science (drawing from multiple scientific disciplines) to determine whether and to what extent a predictive model is actually useful.
However, they're still very useful in laboratory and scientific research- just not in business

I’m looking for a data scientist (associate or senior, been senior title for 5 years as a quant and fin engineer).

AI and LinkedIn say my resume is strong but all I’m getting are rejections. My skillset is there but is this year hard? What can I do to stand out? I have projects on GitHub and a lot of value delivering experience using data science tools.

Thank you for the video, and nice to see you again!
What trend do you see for a data scientist going forward? Do you see a lot of End-to-end data scientists that can concept, develop and implement in production the whole solution?

Thank you for sharing! I'm not in data science but am a UChicago alum too which is how I found your channel originally. When I was job hunting last year, I was thinking really hard about a job with good people, good energy, benefits, and a set of values I aligned with. I did take a pay cut, but that stress you talked about in your video has lifted. I think it was worth it for me and where I'm at in my life (now about 12 years into my career in urban planning/ affordable housing development). Good luck on your current role and whatever comes next!

I am a data scientist too and I am currently in the process of moving from a big company to a start-up up. I have worked in a start-up before and I understand your point clearly. The type of work I've done in both types of companies is very different and since I am only a few years in, I want to do lots of things and experiment. Your video is very good and relatable. Keep up the good work!

Damn, I’ve always wanted to work in tech as a data scientist (experimentation) but now I’m not so sure after this 😂. The job I’ll be starting soon is super chill (culture is great) but now I’m like wondering if I’m willing to ditch culture for higher pay (which is why I want to be in tech). But I don’t know.

Do you think this career path will be less and less available with AI eliminating more entry or junior level positions?

Seems like unless you’re already at a senior level getting started is becoming less feasible.
