That shot of those POPPIES!!! 😍😍😍 omg they are divine!
ОтветитьThe locals will often pick no more leaves or fruits than you need for that day, this will certainly extend the life of your plants, by picking only a few leaves you will promote growth. Be careful not to wait too long, as the plant will grow too large and bolt before it produces seeds.
ОтветитьGarden looks great and fresh lettuce-yum. What a fun guy Mario is and always nice to have a good buddy.
Olive trees look good and hopefully get some good oil from them eventually.
The last year seeded lettuce….did you rescue the seeds…your seeds will be symbiotic to your land and then your body
ОтветитьLooking good!
ОтветитьReally nice pruning, the trees look great!
ОтветитьYuppp. Cleaning the shed bites ..but doing 😊 it
ОтветитьDid you do anything with the dutch chairs yet?
ОтветитьJust FYI. You can saute, poach or steam lettuce and eat it as a warm green veg. Drop of butter or oil, salt and pepper. Yum. Your garden is lovely.
ОтветитьHave we seen the Olive trees? I don’t remember. Nice that you have 10. Lettuce looks beautiful.
ОтветитьEucalyptus when it’s green, I believe the smoke is poison not sure
ОтветитьYou should research how to trim trees , BEFORE you start cutting! You can harm your precious trees by pruning them wrong!!!
Beautiful lettuce indeed!
Wow! Your off-grid homestead is looking so beautiful! But some of your comments are correct about cooking with lettuce and using the stream to wash your vegetables. It is picturesque, but the reality is that you can have all kinds of pathogens and critters, like Giardia or Cryptosporidium in the stream. They can live a long time in the water. They are spread by animals, like deer. We have Giardia in our Sierra Nevadas. Even though your stream is running through gravel and stone to act as filter and may be okay, you dont know who or what has been in that stream upstream! It may be safer to use filtered, potable water for consumption!
Great job, you guys!
Btw, my sister and brother-in-law have several olive trees that they keep shorter to make it easier to harvest the olives!
I just want to say that I have been watching your journey for a very long time and it really warms my heart to see you both get to this exciting stage. It feels like you are definitely getting closer to inhabiting that beautiful mill. I am really excited to see that you are growing your own food. Ive been growing a vegie garden for over 40 years and still get such a sense of satisfaction using my own produce for a meal. Thought Id give you a wee tip. I grow a lot of lettuces which are cut and come again. You are pretty much growing those. So the secret is always take the outside leaves and work your way in. Always leave the very middle leaves and within 4 or 5 days these will be your new outside leaves. I can harvest leaves off one lettuce for weeks by doing this, so its a great way to get more food from one plant. Have fun with your garden. xx
ОтветитьClearing the land makes it look better
ОтветитьSure hooe you rewashed the lettuce with clean well water. Remember, animal feces runsoff to your creek. Chance of some nastyness.
ОтветитьSuch a great episode reflecting on your transition from van life to life transforming your water mill into a home and caring for the land around you. Lovely to see Drew and Mario having such fun working together! Those lettuces are amazing! 🥗
Ответитьcut back 1/3rd top down of your olive trees its not harsh but good for them and any new shoots at and around the base.
ОтветитьYour garden looks great!!
ОтветитьBrittney....beautiful lettuce!!🥗...I think you need to get a couple of wonderful baskets for your veges & fruit, next time you & Drew go to a flea market or the village. (I have an Antique French one I used to sell Biscotti's for a children's ministry...love my baskets!)
ОтветитьThe eucalyptus were put in
In the 80s
To prevent desertification
Cause the oaks were cut down and never replanted
Replace them with oaks and cork oaks guys
Beautiful lettuce. Good job.
ОтветитьGlad to see you finish your container now you can get back to finishing your house
ОтветитьHi guys! Saluti dall’Italia ❤
I moved to the countryside 3 years ago and I’ve learned lots since regarding to olive trees. The old and wise farmers say that “birds should be able to fly within the center of the tree branches” so they trim most of the branches that grow toward the inside of the tree, leaving an empty space like a crown of branches. The sun can kiss those strong branches from both sides, nourishing them and allowing an abundant harvest. They also tend to trim around March (before Easter, so they can give some to the church to be blessed for Easter), they also tend to cut lower branches and trim the ones growing too high and hard to reach during harvest season, using that specific tool that vibrated and lets the olives fall (no idea how it’s called in English though). Also, never trim when there’s still humidity left on the tree from the rain or from the night condensation, they say it can also damage the tree.
Oh! That Poppy flower field is very pleasant!!! 🌺and you know what? Being able to harvest your own greens is precious❤
ОтветитьI don't mean to be mean, but I can't help noticing that week after week goes by with no progress on the house, yet you have the time to spend on all these (sometimes trivial) bits and pieces that could well wait till the main job is finished. It's almost as if you are scared of the place and keep putting it off. The house could have been done and dusted with a bit more focus on the important stuff. I've watched from the beginning and I'm urging you on; you'll have beautiful home in a glorious setting, but you need to get it done and you can entertain us with the frivolous bits later on. This is not nastiness on my part, quite the opposite in fact - I wish I had the courage to do something like this - where most folk are giving a polite thumbs up to all the fun you're having; they are all being way too nice to say what I'm saying. You two need to get your fingers out; you seem to have help on hand most of the time - so what's the problem? I know I'm in the doghouse now, but somebody had to say it. Lots of love to you anyway.
ОтветитьSeeing all your projects are good!
ОтветитьI love your words, Brittney, so wise, so true, so inspiring!
ОтветитьHey guys, where were the safety glasses when cutting the plywood!? 😮 Love the videos, but someone is going to get hurt without proper safety gear. Also, when Britney climbed shakily up the ladder whilst holding a chainsaw 🤦♀️
ОтветитьHey guys! Just rented a little stone cottage up in northern Portugal near peneda Geres NP! Flying my two kitties from California! Wish we lived closer to swap kitty care when traveling! Any advice on the best online Portuguese classes until I move in September? Love watching you guys and what yiur doing with your home is my inspiration. I just love these old stone houses and now I get to live in one for a year until I find my own property! ❤
ОтветитьBritt would you share your recipe for Walnut Bread? Loving your garden it is doing SO well fresh lettuce etc!! Olive trees trimmed & looking forward to future produce!😋 Mario is a gem he loves to work with no complaints & great addition to the team!! Drew you are such a hard worker & so glad to hear your parents are coming over for a visit! 😄 💜💙🐨
Ответить"Spikey bushes." Was that a Project Kamp reference?
ОтветитьHi we have begun our nomad retirement travels in Algarve area of Portugal! You were the first
“ you tubers” we began to follow three years ago! Wondering if you have any meet ups planned for this month? Or if you or anyone out there can recommend another nomad group or nomad you tubers that has meet ups in portugal or England, where we will be in the costwolds in july and August. Thanks for all the fun videos!
You BOTH crack me up in different ways.
ОтветитьYou should build a large dam (with a basing/pool) and ... later a hydropower engine. The basing/pool will be good to have in case of a wildfire.
ОтветитьGreat lettuce harvest, your meal looked delicious Brittany. Great job with the clearing and those olive trees will be thanking you. Container looks so good all finished. Its always nice to get those lingering jobs done. The poppy field was beautiful x
ОтветитьPelo que vejo em outras fazendas ,as oliveiras devem ser cortadas no topo para ficarem mais acessíveis e bem mais baixas.
ОтветитьHi 👋 Mrs. Adventure😊😊, Those lettuces look wonderful and I loved seeing you enjoy it. I have a question 🤔 What did you mean when you said your lettuce went to 'seed' last year? ❤❤
ОтветитьMARIO IS A ROCK STAR🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤😊😊
Ответитьlove, nature, and a peaceful life for a yung family
🌼🌻🌼
So satisfying to address the wildfire risk items. Just spent the past several days doing the same on our property, and it makes me sleep a little better every time I walk and see the clearings. We have the same battery operated hand saw. it is such a time saver and convenient. Just be sure to wear eye protection- the wood chips really can fly. Till next week. 😊
ОтветитьWe’re learning a lot about olive trees as well in Spain. They actually call it milling olives rather than pressing. So exciting to see the little olives maturing!
ОтветитьDrew and Brittany I am constantly amazed at your knowledge of how to maintain your land against fires. Love seeing the bounty of the garden. You work so hard and stay vigilant to keep your property in good shape. You won't have to worry about keeping in shape physically with the amount of land you have to maintain.💪🏽 Impressed with all you do to your property. Watching from California where the threat of wildfires is real. ❤❤🐾🐾
ОтветитьThanks Mr. and mrs. adventure for your vid 😇💗💗💗love and bless you guys 😊good work on the farm 😊 you still have to make the olive trees shorter or you will never be able to pick them 😊
Not higher than 2 meter 😊
I would suggest cutting the olive trees way down to where the main trunk is. It will shoot new branches from there and it will be much easier to harvest that way you can then reach the top of the tree with the olive rakes and get more olives...
Ответить16.15 yikes still way too high!! Watch an olive harvest video and you will understand why you shouldn't have high olive trees 🥰😋😁 But great start on tidying the trees and opening the centre!! They are going to be much happier already!!
ОтветитьLove you folks so much but please don’t wash your lettuce in the creek. You may think it is safe yet animals (birds) drop stuff in the water upstream and critters decompose in creek waters leaving microscopic bacteria and stuff washes into your creek from the land. Pesky stuffs can cause sickness you don’t want. Love you folks!!!
ОтветитьYou wanna “zurbel” it 😆. (That’s what I call it when I do to my grandbabies belly’s, what you wanna do to that head of lettuce 😁)
ОтветитьIt’s just amazing how much you guys have transferred your property already 🧡
Ответить
