Carrier take off and landings are from the USS Hornet, not Yorktown.
ОтветитьI think my Grandfather, Bill Barnes, was in this unit. Not sure if he is shown, but this is amazing to see! Hats off to the people who restored and colorized this footage. Thanks for posting.
ОтветитьThe Yorktown is now a wonderful museum you can visit here in Charleston, SC
Ответитьi wish japan won midway and coral sea.
ОтветитьThis looks like the Coral Sea period due to the red dot roundals and red/white tail stripes. Those were fazed out by time Midway came around.
ОтветитьThat’s the USS Hornet, not the Yorktown CV-5. The big give away is the conning tower and bridge exterior layout. Yorktowns conning tower was fully enclosed by then.
ОтветитьAmazing, and we'll colored!🇺🇲
Ответитьpre-Midway markings on some of the planes. The NAVY didn't use the red dot and tail stripes in June '42.
ОтветитьUnbelievable footage and impressive observations from those who detected the plane markings and Carrier/Time period misidentification.
If history is forgotten, it will eventually be rewritten either intentionally or unintentionally.
At 4.17 is that Jimmy Thatch?
ОтветитьThis reel is a mishmash of footage from different times. There are aircraft with early war insignia (dot / stripes), then there are Japanese aircraft attacking Midway, footage of P-36 Hawks, probably supposed to be Zeros in the US movie detailing the attack on Pearl Harbor and Dauntless Devastator TBs supposedly making attack runs on a carrier. Each section is interesting on its own, but this isn't accurate combat footage.
ОтветитьFantastico hornet... Respect from Vietnam.. Allahu akhbar
