Is FLAVORED Whiskey Actually Bad? (or are we just too afraid to admit the deliciousness...)

My dad and I both enjoy mint juleps and eggnog...

Drambuie famously has honey in it, which explains the sweetness and the viscosity. I mean it says it on the label, "a blend oh scotch whisky, heather honey, and spices". I'm kind of surprised y'all missed that. That being said, It's a pretty good after dinner drink as a sipper. And it's not bad as a cocktail like the Rusty Nail. Personally my issue with all of these flavored "whiskeys" is the over-ridding artificial taste I get. Drambuie is one of the few that avoids that. Also, while I definitely only drink it around the holidays, I do like eggnog. Always homemade, never store bought.

Hi. I do, in fact, crave egg nog throughout the year. I'd replace my water intake with egg nog if it wouldn't lead to dying in like 3 months.

Drambuie is not whiskey - it's a whiskey liqueur. It's an aperitif . Why confuse types of alcohol? How can you profess to be whiskey experts but not know the difference? It's like comparing whiskey with port and then making fun of the port because it doesn't taste like whiskey! Also, why didn't you do Glayva instead of that Drambuie garbage?

Maybe try some Oilfire? Rye whisky and spirits (heavy on the spirits), tastes like a pecan cinnamon roll, not a red hot cinnamon…

I know I am a year and a half late to the party here... But, I am a Mint Julep fan. I like them. I have actually ordered them at a couple of bars, although nearly none of them do it justice.

The Mint Julep is responsible for the invention of the drinking straw. It was the favorite drink of the guy who invented them because you aren't supposed to touch the glass. Don't want to water the drink down with your body heat, and he didn't like the hay flavor that was added with the straw straws of the time. That, and they got mushy.

So, he got with his drinking buddy, and the two of them (one worked at a paper mill, the other a pencil factory) wrapped paper around a pencil, waxed it and called it a day. He made a few dozen to give to his bartender and they were a big enough hit a new product was born.

The Screwball peanutbutter whisky is really tasty.

The only mint that works, and it is still hard to make it work, is fresh mint leaves. Nothing worse than artifical mint.

I always thought of Yukon Jack as the poor man's Southern Comfort. They're both disgusting, but Southern Comfort did it better.

Jameson Cold Brew tastes better added to a cup of coffee. Coffee can be any temp and will work great. Makes it really difficult to play MTG though.

Eggnog is wonderful, if you get the right brand - A&E, Oberweiss, or the like. The wrong brands are truly awful.

Drambuie is the greatest thing in the world! I mix it with nearly every new whiskey that I try.

I gotta disagree. Good eggnog that is homemade or made with 100 fresh ingredients from a local resturant is absolutley delicious. This store bought eggnog crap is just vile.

The cinnamon Jack is great in eggnog and i have to admit that i like the peanut butter whiskey, Add a little Grape liqueur to the peanut butter whiskey and it suppose to taste like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

The JD Tennesee Honey is really good, both neat and on the rocks. And for some reason I get maple syrup on the nose, but that does not matter, just makes it better in my opnion. And yeah, I agree the JD Tennesee Fire is better than Fireball. Seems more refined, and better balanced.

I had to comment after the egg nog mention 😂 I freaking love egg nog and a bit of whiskey it’s even more amazing.

Why don't you sell some of those fancy glasses (in the vein of the glasses you use for your tastings)?

I would be surprised if whomever makes the glasses you actually use wouldn't go for a co-branding deal, considering the type of followers you have (people that earn enough to actually purchase bourbon and whisky, but will purchase it JUST TO GIVE TO YOU) and how affluent they seem to be.

I'm a fan of crown vanilla, but that is about all I have had aside from my shots days

No offense to Jim Beam, but if you want a delicious vanilla flavored spirit- that's what spiced rum is for... Blackheart being a fine example. AND you can taste rum, too.

Never tried that vanilla one but is anyone like me and finds that even though i enjoy vanilla taste, after a while i go off it as a flavouring in things, things that seemed great with vanilla in at first but eventually tastebuds begin to realise its not so good?

Mulled apple cider with apple crown is great! You just keep the apple going and get the warmth from the alcohol
