What’s the purpose of the tape?

It is a big bullshit to take out this battery. I just did it but I suffered 1h with it. Now I am curious how I will put it back at spring. They put those cables like a 5 y old kid.

My battery has the positive and negative on the opposite ends. I'm concerned that taking the bolt off, it may make contact with the chassis since it's a tight space. Never done this before and never touched any vehicles batteries in my life
