I'm only partway through the video so you may have discovered the source of your black debris contamination - but it's not tape-related - it's the insulation sponge from the top cover deteriorating and raining down into the gubbins. I've had that problem with that type of sponge breaking down like that before in other contexts (typically travel cases padded with the same type of material.) I removed all traces of it from my top cover and wherever it littered the floor of the tape mech.
ОтветитьIf you find the flashing STOP key light annoying, you can turn the flashing off with a menu setting. From what I remember it flashes the green STOP key when the machine senses the absence of external sync, which is immaterial on a standalone player anyway.
Ответитьmake it more simple please make toturial about bvw75 converting btacam to digital ....talk about wiring connection and how to convert audio and video capture
ОтветитьWhere can I get this Sony DVW-A500P and the Digital Betacam and Betacam SP tapes you have free completely?
ОтветитьI know that you can measure your current pinch roller and get one with the same measurements, but that only works if you can slide the rubber part off the core and put the new one in. I've never tried this myself as on the VCR I had this problem on the rubber couldn't be taken off the core.
ОтветитьWhat a beautiful machine. Now I want one.
Ответитьnot sure if its been mentioned, but timecode in is for genlocking which means that the studio / facility picture chain is completely synced to a base clock
ОтветитьI used to use this model on a daily basis as an online editor and VT op. These cost around £25K back in the day. I remember when these things were introduced in the early 90s. I think it was '94 when I first used this machine. Before that I was operating D1, D2 and D3 for BBC destined work and later D5, HDCAM, HDCAM SR and Ampex DCT. I also worked with Umatic, Beta SP, 1"C, 1"B, DASH and Ampex 2" Quad. All good fun.
ОтветитьIn a Pro environment we would always feed a signal from a Hi-8 or VHS deck into a house synced TBC first and then into a Digibeta deck. Hence, why no S-Video input.
ОтветитьColin, can I have a free donation from yourself of the Betacam SP, Digital Betacam, and HDCAM tapes as well as the DVW-A500P, J-3 and J-H3 decks to me?
ОтветитьI used to use these on a daily basis as a BBC Editor
ОтветитьUhh... Colin, could ya transfer all of your Betacam SP and Digital Betacam tapes you have as well as that HDCAM tape for me?
ОтветитьDid you also know the fact that the Sony HDW-M2000P would playback Betacam, Betacam SP, Digital Betacam, Betacam SX, MPEG IMX and HDCAM tapes?
ОтветитьThe best thing about discovering this upload is, that I had the pleasure to subscribe to a whole new channel with hopefully a ton of videos.
So...you're hoarding videos ? :D
You're most certainly several steps ahead I'd say. I'm nowhere near the joys you're having.
But.....Just received two JVC first generation HR-S5000EH S-VHS machines today, so I'm up to six of them. Four Danish/Scandiavian machines and two German. This time around, almost 35 years after introduction, they're all faulty and need special care, but I hope to end up with two fully working Danish machines and a lot of spareparts.
And on a personal note. Never expect the next generation to catch the awe and admiration. They haven't lived through the developments or haven't experienced how cool it was, that you could record living pictures on a tape.
They haven't experienced how expensive videotapes were either. They're used to that everything works at the tip of their fingers. Funny world.
Cheers. Hope you've installed the new pinch roller.
I have SONY MSW-M2000P with Error 96. how can I solve that matter? have you any idea.
ОтветитьSony sold NTSC and PAL versions of this machine, need the opposite standard, well just buy two machines! But these machines could be fairly easily modified to dual standard 525/625. All that needed to be done was to change the master VCO on the internal sync generator. The beauty of an all digital servo system and digital signal processing - it was frequency agnostic. A small shop in Hollywood made a fortune in selling this switchable dual standard modification. Sony had a fit and went so far as to modify the sync generator section to where this unauthorized upgrade was not possible on later serial numbers.
ОтветитьHey, nice video! Is it posiblble to feed a video through sdi to the to the sdi inpunt a record it to a beta tape?
Ответитьhave you had issues with Sony branded Digital betacam tape stock blocking the heads within 5 sec all the time?
ОтветитьI've just brought one of these machines and looking forward to playing around with it. I used to use them in a studio many years ago so it's a bit of walk down memory lane for me. The unit I have has the composite decoder card installed.
ОтветитьGreat!!!!! excellent video and a beautiful format! successes!
ОтветитьThanks for the nice trip down memory lane for me. I maintained just about every pro format from 2" quad to HDCAM-SR for a US TV network. I was sent to Sony's service training classes for Betacam SP, Betacam SP camcorder, Digi Beta, XDCAM, and HDCAM camcorder. I always learned a lot which wasn't in the service manual. Do you know about the hidden menus in the BVW-75? The only feature I remember is that it could enable loop play or record. That is very dangerous so it was well hidden. BTW Ampex DCT has to be the best SD recorder ever made.
ОтветитьYou should turn the Tape Counter off of "Free Run" because that's why it was counting without it actually being in a function.
ОтветитьDoes it play VHS 📼 tapes?
ОтветитьI have betacam device and when I play tape the picture ok but there is some black scratches , how can I fix it
Ответитьi think that you have to press REC & PLAY together :)
ОтветитьI've bought a Sony dvw 790wsp from a german E-Bay seller. This camera is used but it works perfectly. I've also bought also from E-Bay BCT-D40 Digibeta metal tapes The Sony Digital Betacam format reminds me of my childhood.
Greetings from Austria
I can't believe somebody just gave you one of those. A premiere workhorse, all around fantastic machine. Even obsolete as it is, it's still valuable.
ОтветитьGreetings:
Before retiring, I used to service these. I still have 2 slip-ring assys (sr-13) for both DVW-A500 & A500P for sale.
Great video. On the DVW machines, if you hold the ENTRY button whilst pressing the MENU button, it will bring up an error log on your monitor with time code stamps of each error. Handy for checking playback or record issues. One other thing, and I’ve noticed this on a few of your machines. If the STOP light is flashing it means your machine does not have a reference signal connected on the back (usually just a black burst signal). If you switch to INT ref (switch) it will stop flashing.
ОтветитьReally enjoyed this overview of the DigiBeta machine. I was just starting to service some of these before leaving the industry. Wonderful to work on like other Sony machines but I did not like doing the head changes, very fiddly mechanical alignments with the fixed upper drum and inner head drum. Did you manage to source a pinchroller?
ОтветитьHow do you connect it to a TV? What adapter did you use?
ОтветитьWhen re-capping, where do you source your parts ?
ОтветитьI always keep the record inhibit switch turned on with my machines unless I’m planning to actually record on a tape. On most Sony machines the record inhibit indicator is different for a protected tape or an inhibited machine; from memory I think it’s steady for one and flashes for the other.
You haven’t mentioned the flashing stop button. I don’t have a Digibeta, but on my other machines this indicates that a reference video signal, normally black and burst but it can be a full composite video signal, is not being received.
Greetings
I just got the sony DNW-A500P I connected it via SDI to an AJA card in my computer but it doesn't seem to get the signal
Does the beta happen to have a switch to output video from either the analog or digital outputs or it should output from both anyway
For now I can only see it in component or composite
Thank you
hi card 11 is very good for some things yes i bet the price for it is high it doe's say on the back of the deck
to all over there this deck is very HEAVY i can tell you you need a go rack to wheel them a round on
i don't have video decks over 6ft high on a rack the in sur can be funny
funny thing i have talked to some people have had to sell there betacam because they don't have the room for them
in the cave and the lady of the place said to sell it my lady is a cat
there's only 7 big players who buy used betacam decks and we are on you mail alot i just got in the betacam
from betamax let me down alot
Betacamrecorders and DV Recorders must go on Play and Record to Recording any on the Tape. I must learn this, on my Sony DSR25 many Years later, when i have a Betamax Recorder...
ОтветитьI used to work with these machines on a daily basis once. There were so many options and keys that I created an interactive user manual with Filemaker Pro on the Mac for educational purposes. ALL buttons, in and outputs were explained as well as the menu's. You could lookup on keyword and it would tell you what menu item you needed to go to and what the available options were. Pressing a button would have the same visual effect as pressing it on the real machine. Great fun to create, but it gave my RSI... Too many and too long days creating that I guess. Not a lot was known at that time around RSI and the cause. P.S. I would get rid of the head sponge if I were you. It only increases wear on the heads and if the heads are dirty, you can clean them with some smooth chamois leather and alcohol. (not up and down, only in the direction of tape travel!)
ОтветитьI regularly used one of these and an hdcam machine for E-Cinema presentations.Very nice machines.
ОтветитьHey man! So I just got one of these, but the video signal is blank gray, any ideas for fixes?
ОтветитьBack in the summer of 1981, only 18 at the time, I bought a Sony C7 Betamax, that machine cost me £715, which would be around £2500 to £3000 today. Back then nothing was close to the picture quality of the recordings, and believe or not one of the first home VCR's to have colour picture search and slow motion playback, by the time the C9 with (HiFi Stereo) came out some 3 or 4 years later, getting rental films in Beta was quite difficult, so I didn't see the point in upgrading to the new model. Around 1987/88 the C7 finally gave up and was replaced be a VHS Panasonic. However, I still felt even after all that time and improvements to the VHS system the original C7 offered better picture quality recordings. Thanks for this insight into the world of build quality video tape recorders rarely seen....
ОтветитьThanks so much for this great information.
ОтветитьThe VPR1 board has a couple of large LSI Logic mask programmed gate arrays- those are the ones which have the Sony logo in big print on them. A bit uncommon to find such things in Sony hardware. The five large devices on the side marked "Output Block" are certainly signal coupling transformers.
Ответитьhi Sir, how to factory reset this deck ya ?
ОтветитьDUMMY head is a counter balance. Just there for weight. The drum was cut for a head even though there is no purpose for it. So something had to go there.
ОтветитьThanks for brilliant video presentation, I love the tape mechanism!
ОтветитьI've enjoyed your clips the last few years. Wondering if you can give a basic answer here; RE: Panasonic AG-7750 S-VHS deck; All lights ARE working, All functions WERE working, but inserted a tape, now won'y play, won't FF or RW etc...and won't eject. What might the cause of this be?
