If the bolter fires a rocket propelled projectile, then why is it's recoil so aggressive that it would permanently damage the arm of an average human were they to fire it? It should have almost no recoil if it operates in such a manner as described.

It's specs have always been cartoonish and unrealistic, but it's just something that we all look past. IF rocket technology advances significantly in the next few decades, I don't see why it can't be an actual real gun. By that time, rail gun tech will probably surpass. I always assumed that the Crusade era Bolters were made of better quality and were more sought out and it was the opposite with power armor as the newer patterns are far more superior than earlier models.

40,000 years and they still cant make a rifle that cant do without a good cleaning during a campaign , mabey the one who invented the bolter should go back in time and talk to kalashnikov and make a better one.
