The basics of whip stacking in Terraria, in 100 seconds

I love the idea of tag damage, or free minions... The fact that whips actually do damage themselves though? That's just proof Relogic doesn't have any dedicated summoner players in their ranks. The fun and value of summoner, and why it's not usually popular, is in NOT doing damage yourself. Being able to focus solely on buffing, debuffing, or dodging as your minions do all the damage for you IS the joy of summoner for those who actually enjoy the playstyle. It's similar to those who enjoy playing support/healer in multiplayer games, except summoning can be done alone, for solo players.

Using a mouse with thumb buttons can make stacking a lot easier.

Protip: Terraria lets you set 5 different sets of keybinds. You can set one of them so that left mouse click selects the first item in your quick bar, wheel selects the second and right click the third. It makes whipstacking significantly easier, just hold lmb and occasionally any other mouse button for like a second at most. Just put your whips into 3 first quickbar slots, switch to your whipstacking keybind set right before a bossfight and have at it.

i wish they did something cooler with the summoner class instead of making it true melee but with minions

I have 600+ hours in terraria... wtf dude i did not know this.

I thought whip stacking was when you use all of the speed boosting whips to make your best whip go really fast. That’s what I’ve been doing. Snapthorn, durendal, dark harvest then kaleidoscope is the final order. It absolutely melts bosses so I’m probably going to stick with it but I’m definitely going to try actual whip stacking too!

The rare few time where terraria actually allows players of a specific class utilize actual high skill high reward tech in the game.

i love whip stacking but the only problem is, in vanilla terraria you can switch whips while using a whip, so it makes it 10 times easier to whipstack but in tmodloader, you cant do that for some reason, why tmodloader devs?

From the few bits I’ve played summoner, I always just used imp staff, snapthorn, and spinal tap. I usually don’t bother with summoner cause you have to go very far out of your way to play it.

i still dont understand why stack the whips. does the tag damage stack if u use multiple? or are you just swapping to get the benefits of the cool whip’s snowflake plus the durendal’s higher dps?

Is this possible in Xbox? Switching from one item to another doesn't auto attack, so are you just tapping the attack button and switching in between?

Recently I've been trying a mix of minions. 2 sanguine bats, 2 pygmy's, 2 blades, and 1 UFO. Any advice or tips?

while i can make this, i can't exactly say how to get better at whip stacking other than practice
since im also pretty bad at it
but, two whips is definitely feasible, especially in late game where whip speeds are faster. dark harvest is your best friend (especially in 1.4.4, it got 10 effective area tag damage!)
