This series was awful. The cgi is probably the best it can be, and looks pretty good, but the writing is atrocious. Katara is completely butchered into a girlboss. 2 episodes in i knew when zuko said “you found a master havent you?” She would say that cringe ass line “your looking at her”

It’s so exhausting being treated like an idiot by show writers. They don’t trust us to understand anything.

No wonder why the Avatar creator ran out of Netflix after they saw what Netflix did to their original work. Every great IP that came to Netflix ended horribly such as Avatar and The Witcher.

It is a crime to not talk about how Zhao carried the show on his shoulders. That was the only thing I loved from this adaptation!

The complaint that Aang's circumstances and Ozai's identity of him not being shrouded in mystery is a weird one. You pretend like that could even be recreated when the characters are so well known.

I have a theory for why exposition in movies and television has gotten horrendous over the years. I don't think it's necessarily because they think the audience is stupid or that the show is meant for kids, It's because so much of the audience constantly has their attention split between their phone and the movie.

If i never saw the original show I think I wouldve LOVED this version, but i have. I have. So.

Hot take alert: I agree that this show missed the point, but it didn't miss the point as hard as Korra did. That show was actually terrible.

This is why I don't give a shit about the new movie coming out or the new animated show, because Bryan and Mike clearly don't know what was good about their own creation. Them without Aaron Ehasz isn't good at all

Why bother making, or even watching a "1to1" remake of a show that's already been made? Live action adds ZERO entertainment value to an animated "show/film."

I don't know why people are so generous with this show. It's easily the worst anime adaptation I've ever seen. I don't think I've ever seen such blatant disrespect to source material before and there's been some doozies. Every line of dialog was garbage, all of the acting was garbage (Except the kid who played Saka), action hero Momo catching that rock was......so dumb. The complete and total rewrites of Katara, Azula, and Ozi are unforgivable. This show pissed me off from start to finish.

One of the reasons a lot of TV shows are exposition heavy are because the writers are trying to compensate for the fact that many viewers are on their cell phones during the content. While watchers are liking and sharing on Instagram, the TV show has to repeat so much story just for all the things that they anticipate have been missed

My guess is that they made him leave to “clear his head,” because running away seems like a bad trait, and we at Netflix can’t have a hero with bad traits! We have to smooth off all the edges to everyone until they’re as bland as can be so that nobody can call them out on being in the wrong! This is sure to make the audience connect with them. Who would ever find imperfections relatable!?

The original doesn’t show the fire lord’s face, but you he’s always present, because his actions have caused everything that is wrong in the world.
Meanwhile live action’s like “We need him to be more active, so let’s have a lot of scenes with him. He doesn’t even have to do anything really, he can just talk a bunch.”

They removed all the nuance from Jet’s story by making him a terrorist instead of a war criminal. When he’s trying to kill the earth king it’s an obvious “yeah, it’s the earth kingdom, which isn’t the fire nation, so clearly doing that is bad.” But in the original where he’s trying to destroy a fire nation town full of innocents, it actually makes you think. You realize that just because they’re in the other nation doesn’t mean they’re all evil. The civilians are just trying to live their lives. Should we really play judge, jury, and executioner to an entire town?

I will never understand the choices they made with Azula. Ozai’s like “why can’t you be more like Zuko? Even though I burned his face and banished him with a task that was considered impossible at the time, he’s the one I’m actually proud of.” And she’s like “I’m so jealous.” What even is this? What are you even doing guys?

Interesting that they made all the villains completely whitewashed and bland while turning Bumi into a despicable villain with no redeeming traits.

This may be low hanging fruit that plenty of folks have said already, but they couldn’t do the thing with Koh stealing your face when you show emotion, cause Aang already never shows emotion. It would look exactly like every other scene.

You act like its forbidden to call someone a bad actor in every single video bro, the girl that played katara just didnt act well at all in this show. There were many, many scenes that could have been good but its up to the actress to put a certain amount of emotion into their performance. Many of the actors in this show didnt do well. Not everything is writing. If youre too scared to roast the actors then roast the casting director.

If this Sauca isn't as charming or witty as the cartoon then he's not Sauca. The same way ur not Cosmonaut. What is that thing ur doing with ur voice? It doesn't sound like u really talk like that, u sound like a 40 yr old who's trying to appeal to LGBTeens...over the phone.

See... i wouldn't have been happy about it but i could have accepted it if this was still the og creators and this was a bit more in line with what they wanted after refining for a few years... but when they left FOR CREATIVE DIFFERENCES... its just... big oof...

The number one think that bothered me was Kyoshi. She was not at all the calm woman she was in the original.
Roku is so important because he was a fire bender first and then the Avatar. And they shoved him to the side because Kyoshi is a strong powerful woman. And they made her bash Aang. I did not like that scene at the Kyoshi tempel at all

Zuko is weirdly not written as a true villian which is so weird

For me it wouldn't matter if a character was 100% different than in the original, as long as their new character makes just as much sense and is interesting to watch.

Zuko and Azula have some sort of godlike view of their father. Zuko would NEVER at that point fight Ozai, is dishonorable, Azula would NEVER at that point disobey Ozai. This read more like they are portraying children that grew up on USA than children that grew up on a totalitarian culture where respect to Ozai is mandated!. Even Iroh, Ozai brother have to be super careful on how he talks to his brother!.

I've never understood why we needed a live action Avatar when the show is already so successful at telling that story. I didn't need that as a fan and I definitely didn't need a WORSE version.

I totes agree about sexualizing the characters but holy shit i somehow in three watchings of avatar and reading the comics never realized Azula is only... 14?! That does not look like the 14 year olds i know.

I am just tired of live action adaptations of animated properties. Like whats the point? You're never gonna capture the same magic, the point of animation is to tell stories in ways you just can't tell through a live production.

I remember getting nervous when the original writers left over creative differences. Oh boy, I definitely see why they left now.
