Joyce’s face when Denzel talks about her inferior Se: 😐. Too cute.

INTJ 5w6 here, with an INFJ younger sister. I completely relate to the comparison.

My Fi might be so strong i can't even act like other types without showing my immature Te or my personal opinion and beliefs.
I sometimes do a little rp with my friends and i struggle A LOT at showing Se or Fe naturally, and seeing this video helped me quite a lot actually and I'm now happy! But i gotta put into practice before keeping my hopes too high.

Every time you cover INFJ mistypes, I laugh. It took me about 15 years to discover my type is INFJ because I am surrounded by all of the mistypes. My mom and my sister are ISFP, my dad is INFP, my brother is ISTP and I've been married to an INTJ for 19 years. My best friend growing up was an ESTP. It took my-never-been-mistyped INTJ husband to briefly review the functions and make a guess at what he thought my type might be. Reading the correct type description, suddenly I had words for things I could never even attempt to describe. Although I'm not crazy about the woo-woo type words often used to describe NI as though it is mystical and magical and no one else can be an empath, it has been a very useful tool. I really enjoy these typing style discussions.

Joyce, have you thought of bringing guests back-- panel style? It would be interesting to see how they've implemented what they've understood about themselves.

*steps onto pedantic pedestal: As an INFP 4, I definitely self-reference, and do so as a means to compare and contrast with others, really seeking out to discern differences between individuals. And while I don’t look at interaction dynamics between whole group ensembles (that would be overload for me), I look at interactions between individuals, or pairs, knowing likely repeated patterns that will play out if not cognizant of them. I seek to get the gist of what people want and prioritize, and how that will factor into contrasting wants and prioritizations. I am very interested in relational dynamics, but usually one-on-one. *steps off pedantic pedestal P.S. I do sense other people’s emotions, especially with their delivery, tone, gestures… but it doesn’t mean I will immediately jump into help in the way that they want. I read the emotions of others, the same way I respond to music, feeling varying degrees of harmony and dissonance. While they are technically my responses, they are responses to outside stimuli, in the form of expressed emotions of others: the whimpering of a crying dog, the infectious belly laugh, the sorrow and despair of loss and grief… but I don’t necessarily show that I am responding or “reading the emotions of others”.

I think there is a tendency for strong Fe to characterize Fi as only thinking of itself, which I think is partially incorrect. Fi is often reacting in ways that might not be on the Fe radar, or expected ways of reacting to others. But Fi does act selfishly in that it will always tend to prioritize its own personal conscience, versus that of group ways of doing/behaving/reacting. To me, Feeling itself isn’t really just emotions, but rather making relational decisions via what one says or does, while taking into account potential emotional reactions, and overall implications of actions taken on relationships.

I can totally relate to that inferior Se. Being an INFJ and recording myself being in the moment and constantly adapting takes a lot of focus and thought preparation.

Really nice video, but I will say some of the ISFJ versus INFJ descriptions coming from Denzel were a bit wack. I know this video was just a bunch of brief descriptions and comparisons, but it’s not really ideal to explain an ISFJ as someone who would want to comfort someone only in the sensory realm with tangible objects, and with an INFJ wanting to empathize or unpack it verbally with someone. I enjoyed the descriptions but those examples were too broad, in my opinion.

Te and Fi.... for an infj is torture... I can just imagine how you grew up with ESTJ and ISTJ, it makes me cry. If they were healthy, not too bad, but if they were unhealthy, dear God, how did you survive without getting sick?

I am sick with fake enfp that actually esfp. Same with infj that actually isfp/isfj/infp. I don't know anymore which one is real. Even enfj is actually enfp. So I guess spend more time irl for observation and talk with his family is way effective but may take longer time to fully understand which type is it. Tbh, i am so sad for break up with fake enfp. It's fake and I don't like someone that pretend to be something different. I wish people can learn some cognitive function instead fully rely on MBTI tests.

Love these talks. I’m INTJ (5w4). I’m very much into “woo woo” stuff (astrology, spirituality, connecting with nature, envisioning a more resource-based economy/society. But it’s SO true that I’m VERY much focused on my OWN self, my OWN emotions, my OWN future more than anything else. Fe bewilders me, but I do understand wholeheartedly what it means to put on an Extroverted Mask to interact with others.

I love this! That is so funny about you trying to get Joyce to do another show to get her in a situation where she has to share more of herself. I also noticed years ago that she hid behind her guests to a certain extent and was resistant to speaking unless it was something scripted ahead of time or she knew what she would would try to bring out of each guest.

I remember being on one of her panels and telling another particularly loquacious guest (when she had jumped off on a break) that I wanted them to not interrupt her because I was really trying to listen to what she has to say. I had noticed that any interruptions would just stifle her further. I feel her pain there. As an INTJ, with the same Ni/Se placement, I can relate to not being able to express myself verbally in a smooth way. It drives me crazy! I’ll do it in writing any day over speaking!

Joyce is so right about INTJs being analytical. I’m often thinking in metrics and will ask or tell someone how I view a situation by using percentages or statistics. Like if my friend asks how it’s going with my new website design, I’ll almost invariably describe the progress in terms of percentages (e.g. the site design is 30% complete and I have about 80% of the security left to test.). I don’t try to find ways to track this basic information in normal conversations although I will consciously find ways to do more advanced tracking such as using analytics, stats, etc. when it serves my goal. My mind just naturally and instantaneously looks for ways to measures these things and numbers fit the bill.

It’s so true about the glasses for me and funny because I didn’t realize other INTJs chose their glasses like that. I’m literally in the process right now of trying to pick out new frames and my goal is to select a pair that will align with my brand identity, which in turn aligns with my life’s passion project. It ALL must fit together or else I’m just wasting opportunities to optimize and missing out on ways to have the greatest impact.

It’s been pretty frustrating because at my age, I need bifocals and those limit the types of frames you can have. I know exactly what I want but they don’t make them for bifocals! 😩 😣

INTJ here dating an ISFJ and let me tell you, it is heavenly having someone who takes care of my physical needs. I used to think I needed to be with an intuitive, but no, I’ve got enough of that to cover us both. I want the clean laundry and chicken Alfredo please. 😍😁 Not only that but she’s absolutely the most precious, purest heart I’ve ever known. 💗🥰

The truth about Joyce is that Monday through Friday she is an INFJ, but at the stroke of midnight on Friday she transforms into an ESTP. She then spends the weekend performing in her 80s hair band called, The Sassy Psychics and than roams the city looking for buildings to parachute off. All while wearing her spider man pajamas and drinking Canadian whiskey.

A question… Can people who use Si or Se be really good at the understanding theory if they study it in detail and understand then building blocks of it - then they can see the big picture? Could an intuitive jump to quickly to a theoretical conclusions and as a consequence not always get the full picture?

I liked the moment when Denzel emphasized the pleasure Joyce gets from Ni use. It made me really consider the pleasure of my heavy Ne use and inspired me to try to picture what it would be like to experience Ni pleasure. Is it when you know something is really 'for you'? ...or is it the pleasure of mission - of the sense of connection of the thing you are doing with a vision? For example, the recent show Shogun is all about giving your life for a meaningful cause - is that basically an indulgence of Ni pleasure?

Can an INFP be highly driven, despite the common perception of them being in their own heads? Am I possibly mistyped? I would appreciate a discussion on how each MBTI personality type generally approaches success and impact.

Also an INFJ, also have felt the need to defend myself against different other type possibilities ( not from any outside attack, just questioning myself repeatedly as I learn new information). This was super insightful for me, as I even find myself questioning if I’m INFP or INTJ etc. Thank you so much for all of these videos Joyce, especially this one. The writing style descriptions were super helpful.
