Luka is a true generational talent. Flagg is not and you are going to find this out. Go look at the Nelson and Robinson blocks on Flagg. Flagg looked absolutely ordinary. Luka is a better shooter and passer and he might be a better rebounder.

Luka just dropped a 45-8-6-4 game on Dallas with all the pressure in the world on him. You people are insane if you think Flagg is anywhere near Luka's level.

Luka Historic playoffs for Dallas just last year: 635 points, 208 rebounds, 178 assists, 41 steals (Never been done before in NBA history). Second for each: Kyrie (487 points), Tatum(184 rebounds), Tyrese(123 assists), Ant - (24 steals)

In the first 6 years, I want no less than this out of Flagg:

Two western conference finals appearances with two completely different rosters.
One finals appearance.
5 times all-NBA.
5 time all-star.
Rookie of the Year
In one of the playoffs, I want him to lead in points, rebounds, assists, and steals (only one person in history did this --- that was Luka)
I want him to have a scoring title.
I want him to average 34-9-10.
I want to see him handle double and triple teams consistently.

Mixed team defense is a true measurement of how good of defensive player a person is. It takes into account steals, blocks, rebounds, and team defensive efficiency. Luka is way above league average. This narrative that Luka does not play defense is false. In fact, the Laker's defense with Luka was better than Dallas' defense with AD.

Let's see Flagg take Brunson, Bullock, Smith, and Powell to the Western Conference Finals.

Regarding Luka's Defense:
1) The Mavericks had a better defensive rating with Luka on the court than with AD on the court.
2) 110.3 to 112.5.
3) AD : Zubac 25pts 11/11 FG; Clippers 80 points in the paint
4) MAVS defense last year was better than it was this year.
5) Laker's defense has improved since Luka arrived.
6) Luka just dropped 45 on your "improved defense".

Obviously the guy who ELEVATES everyone around himself is the easier to "build around". And since he elevates some types even more it's even that much easier since you know what to get.

As selfish and sensitive as Nico can be, I trust Nico to build around Flagg, AD and Kyrie than I do with Pretty Boy Pelinka with the Lakers for Luka.

The Mavs could be the 1998 Spurs this upcoming year. AD, Kyrie, Klay (maybe CP3 and/or Westbrook) can be for Flagg similar to David Robinson, Avery Johnson and Sean Elliot were for Tim Duncan.
Mavs cannot trade anymore firsts. I know Manu was a very late pick in 1999 but didn’t play until 2003. No one remembers the Spurs picks from 1999-2000. Max Chrisite, Lively, the 2029 Lakers pick and picks from 2031 and beyond have to be for Flagg similar to Manu, Parker, Bowen, Kawhi was for Duncan.

First game of the year the NBA will have Cooper Flaggs first ever regular season NBA game be Luka’s second game back at the AAC when it’s Lakers at Mavs and it will be hyped Luka vs Cooper (New GF vs the EX) and Christmas will be Mavs at Lakers (if not hurt) ADs first game as a visitor at Staples.

You can’t compare Cooper Flagg to Luka in 2025. I do think we can compare 2025 Flagg to 2018-2019 Luka though.

Effort? Luka, with injuries, dragged your sorry team to the WCF twice and to the finals once. Effort? Flagg has not played a minute in the NBA. Feels really messed up as a Luka fan to be constantly told to "get over it" but every chance y'all get you have Luka in your mouth. Why now Isaac? The question is irrelevant. How many owners in the NBA would like Luka/Flagg on their team. I'm guessing they'd want Luka, therefore he would be easier to build around. Flagg is great on defense, has had a great high school/college career. Luka was guaranteed hof before reaching the NBA. You stated youre not comping them but you are. There will never be another Mav to score 73 points in a game. If Flagg has 12 blocks in a game, is it a given that he is easier to build around?

No one knows what and who CF will be because obviously, he's a rookie. We all know LD's greatness, etc. LD is still not considered the best player in the NBA after 7 years even with the greatest player "supposedly" on earth in LeBum. Brunson kept that team together in that first run while Luka was out, I'd venture to say, Brunson was almost as important as LD was in the series, and now you see what he's doing in NY. PRETTY UNSTOPPABLE. Meanwhile, we went up against an inexperienced coach and team in Oklahoma and Minny to make it there only to get squashed by Boston and we had a dominant defender in Derek Jones Jr. Meanwhile, LD had Lebron and AR which were in my opinion were vastly superior to ANYTHING we had last year and where did they go again? Yeah, give CF 3 years and we won't be talking about LD ever again here.

Unless he makes a finals next year there is no justification to even bring this debate up. Flagg has a long way to go before he can even be in the same stratosphere as Luka.

Since Luka left:

Lively has not looked the same.
PJ has not looked the same.
Gafford has not looked the same.

We will know if Flagg could anywhere near Luka if he wins rookie of year like Luka did…but most importantly in 7.5 years when Flagg is 26 like Luka is now. 2032 is when Flagg turns 26 so we’ll see.

Wait too soon, but comparisons are the thief of joy. Cooper Flagg is going to be his own player and leave his own mark. Luka is a great player. I feel bad for him because he will be in Luka’s shadow especially in the first few years which can be harmful. But, I feel like he is not the type of player to feel that way. Hopefully he stays strong. The future is bright for both players. Time will tell and let’s see how it all works out. ❤

I love luka but 1. He plays too much international ball he is gassed come playofff time. 2. As it stands now luka is basically a better version of james hardin, all offense. 3. Cooper flagg has the potential to be better overall and carry a series with his offense and defense.

I agree pretty much what you said Isaac. Luka gives us a higher ceiling and can get you over the hump with his game alone. Flagg gives you a better chance to have a better overall team in the other positions.

Alright so let's stick to the question: WHO IS EASIER TO BUILD AROUND? That's easily Flagg. He's an all-around, plug-and-play type of player. You can put him in every lineup and he can adjust easily coz you don't really need to have specific types of players.

Better player? Yeah sure that's Luka, but "EASIER TO BUILD AROUND"? I hate to say it, but a lot of players need to adjust their game around Luka, and a lot of them actually became better when they left Luka. We're seeing it with Lebron right now. Lebron plays more "off-ball" right now, just because Luka is not used to that. Luka just knows to play when he has the ball. With Flagg, other players don't need to do that coz he can play multiple positions and adjust easily around other guys. He can play with the ball or without the ball.

So in the end, better ceiling, Luka. Easier to build around, Flagg.

Sorry I'm a Mavs fan, and Luka is the answer. He will win titles and be in top 10 or higher in scoring by the time he retires. Not sure Flaff can put a team on his back because he will never have same offensive skills as Luka.

I think Cooper flag will be a better all-round player and fit for the Mavericks. Yes Luca is good on offense but his laziness and defensive liability hurts in the long run. He's been exposed the past couple years on that. It's time to move on Lucas gone stop riding this jock we're lucky to get Cooper flat. The basketball gods looked out for us.
