So many issues and problems with the XM. First and foremost is you don't buy s*** from Sig Sauer. Sig is garbage and every serious shooter in the world steers clear. Every firearm Sig has produced in the last two decades has been an absolute shit show. Second, the 5.56 is more than capable of piercing body armour. This is somebody in Congress and in the military getting a kickback from Sig... A waste of money and absolutely disappointing.

America's strength in major wars was logistical supply. we HAVE a more powerful option in stock-the 7.62 nato.

the Army's F35 size waste of money for small arms and practical use.

I think Navy Seal teams had one member who carried an M14. I don't know how long this went on, but this new weapon is better in so many ways.

I know everybody’s worried about going to a larger caliber. How about we teach our military men and women how to use a larger caliber they used a 3006 during World War II and did so very well. And trust me when you butts in a sling you don’t notice the recoil. I want something that can reach out a good distance and take care of business at a good distance. I went into the service and I was issued an M14 and it worked just fine. Was then issued the M-16 and I get it. It had some teething problems and it worked just fine. Give me the choice. I’ll take the M14 with a 308 round. And the average entry men don’t start firing until they’re 600 m away.

As a lover of old and new. I love the 6.5 Swede! smaller than 30 06 and 308/7.62, shoots flat as Hell, hits like a 30 06 or 7.62. FMJBT 147 grn, couple hunded FPS faster too, as "I recall?
First shots I ever did in the mid 90's with a 1896 6.5 Swede Mauser was about 250 yrds at an abandon old ford twin I beam suspension, fliped out in the Mojove.
Darn thing went though the I beams back to back, rims and tires from all directions LIKE a DRILL PRESS! never dimpled the outer impact? Just perfect holes.

The new rifle is a joke. Bad idea going with a rifle that heavy, especially with a heavy optic. Not practical at all. Especially when you factor in body armor and all the kit soldiers carry which is already really heavy. A new high powered round also isn't gonna be great for full auto. The scope/optic is really cool tho, that should put them on the M4.

The M16 and its descendants were wonder weapons in 1970s and have served well into the 2020s. That’s a very long time for a main battle rifle. Probably the longest serving US infantry weapon since the trapdoor Springfield.

That sight isn’t going to help anyone hit targets at long range. There’s nothing that makes up for marksmanship. Most can’t even hit a 300 meter target now and optics don’t help. The bigger rounds means each soldier will carry less ammo. The number one dictator of winning a firefight is fire superiority. Whoever gets the most rounds down range for the longest is going to win. Who cares if you’re punching through plates? If you can’t get fire superiority you’ll lose. People who analyze this need to know more about the subject. This guy doesn’t.

It’s great that the Army doesn’t need suppressing fire anymore, so they can carry less ammo with a heavier rifle. The 556x45, 77 gr, was a sufficient killer. I’d rather add a grenade launcher on the 556 rifle if we are going heavier as ground drones are already being used in Ukraine and coming soon to other near peer wars. I’d rather have 2 guys per squad carry a 308 with armor piercing rounds than everyone carry a 6.8. Another fight light, one shot one kill, solution. The SMAW took out the majority of fighters in Afghanistan who were beyond rifle range. I think the 6.8 is a mistake.

80.000 pounds of chamber pressure is a barrel killer. 3000 rounds fired and you're not going to be winning any marksmanship competitions and that's a fact!
