one question: how many Neanderthal dna samples have been studied in numbers, how many of them are dark-skinned, how many are red-haired?

A bonus for having Neanderthal genes, we can even make jokes about them because its poking fun at us. The thing is, we are ALL mutts, mixed and at the same time closely related. I am not a scientist but have had an interest in topics centered around early man. By definition, if a male and a female have sex and produce a fertile child, then they are the same species. Why the mystery?

I doubt very much that modern humans of today could have survived through the harsh times of the last glaciation period (from 110,000 years to 21,000 years ago) which made Eurasia much colder that it is today, and the tropical and subtropical parts of the Middle East and Africa, much dryer than even today. But there they were, living within a stone age culture. It makes me wonder, who are/were the superior ones.

You are right. I am Iranian and live in the Zagros mountains. When the Shanehdar Z came out, I commented somewhere: come on, it looks like my girlfriend's mother. Why did you create this like the human population of the region tens of thousands of years later? Her Neanderthal features are reduced to the point that she could be an old woman from today's Zagros mountains. If you do know that she was like that, it's ok. But you didn't know what she looked like and chose to make her like an old Indigenous population with some exaggerated features. Thank you for making my point much better than I could have said.

I say the crossings of archaic modern humans with Neanderthals and denisovans or Neanderthals/denisovans hybrids did some good when you consider the ones that were in Europe sailed the seas, the ones in indo Australia sailed the seas, but the ones that remained in Africa did no such thing that the genetic record can reveal. From Africa to south America should be easier than from Malaysia to south America. Just saying.

Asians H sapiens have more neandertalensis genetics than European populations, and neandertalensis resembled neither modern Asians nor Eurasians, regardless of eye color or hair color or pigmentation. They acquired same hair color as did wooly mammoths, wooly rhinos etc, due to same environmental influences.
The skeletal morphology is distinctly different and disimilar than any H sapiens populations.
Different ear bones, an ape like bell shaped rib cage, different wrist and thumbs, ankle and heel bones and build.
The intelligence was also different in keeping with their distinctly different brain morphology. They weren't less intelligent, they were intelligent in different ways than H sapiens.
H neandertalensis was varied in keeping with their geographic location and molded via long tenure.
Also note, neandertalensis ventured into the levant, they did not move from S of the Mediterranean into Europe. The reconstructions are constantly changing and depicted as identical to modern H sapiens and its not persuasive if one is familiar with the morphology and biological anthropology.
Neanderthals are extinct, regardless of small traces still detectable in some modern Eurasians or Asians.

Logic, considering the recent explanation for fair skin and blond hair and blue eyes, namely lack of abundant sunlight.

It would be quite possible for the homosapien to develop blue eyes and fair ski n on their own.
