Its a very good statblock if you wanted to make Tevildo, which is a proto version of a character from Lord of the Rings. Specifically, Sauron. Tevildo was a cat that had a golden collar that gave him a lot of power.

A sphinx of wonder based on my cat would have slightly lower intelligence but increased charisma to match (you cannot ignore a Siamese when she speaks, it is impossible). And a fascination with birds, but unlike my cat, the sphinx can actually catch them.

The Cat Delivery System definitely works for Sphinxes of Wonder. My next city is ruled by a Sphinx and has lots of stray cats, so these guys will fit right in.

I had amazing Sphinx boss encounters planned twice in the same campaign. Each time the party found other options and did not directly encounter the Sphinx, let alone know it was a Sphinx 😂

A sphinx ofwo der based on my cat would be very clingy and have some serious abandonment issues. We found him dumped behind some dumpsters as a kitten, so I think he's afraid that we (my brother and I) might do the same. 🥺 He gets really upset when I leave for work, but he gets so excited when I come home, and he doesn't wanna leave my side for some time after I get home. He's so sweet, but he can be a real pain I the rear when I'm trying to cook and have to make sure I'm not stepping on him. 😂

I’ve been wanting to use a sphinx ima campaign. Maybe later in the story, the sphinx has given the party its magic item and with nothing to guard now, decides to join the player on their journey. But outside of its pocket dimension it becomes a sphinx of wonder.

I'd like to use this in my campaign as my players will not play 3.5ed upwards and are veterans as dm for about 20–30 years, so my question is what do u think the application of Toxoplasma gondii and how may I go about using it as part of the Spinx ability given it no stat bloc for it

A Sphynx of Wonder based on Max (the cat who supervises me) would have some sort of buff related to climbing humanoids, and would gain Alertness as per the feat, and Truesight out to 120' when surveying the world from a humanoid shoulder. He would also be indistinguishable from a scarf unless the observer made a DC15 perception check.

Also, Max is immune to any effects that would discern the truth of his statements, as Max has definitely never been fed in his life, regardless of any evidence to the contrary.

I think that Sphinx being a celestial is an awful idea. Once again 5e taking away variety.
A monstrosity is something that shouldn't be, something unnaturaly created to fit in the world. Just like the Chimera that was created by demogorgon to be a beast of Chaos. But technically the Chimera and Demogorgon aren't unified in any way, he just created the species. So a Chimera could eventually become more inteligent and less wild or breed with any species of highly inteligent and lawful Magic beast, since the Chimera can breed with almost any monstrosity.
The same goes for the Sphinx, as a monstrosity created by Gods they had a purpose but also the option to choose. Most of them would stay as guardians of the designated place but they're still animals, and It was written in the Lore that MOST Sphinx would eventually hate their Jobs, since they're good creatures that most of the times kill "unworthy" champions trying to reclaim anything the Sphinx is protecting.
Some of them just abandon they're job and go Wild. That's how the other two Sphinxes came into play, the Cryosphinx and the Hieracosphinx, which are not created by the Gods and they don't guard anything, they're just beasts.

Now, with the Sphinx being a celestial, it's impossible to take them out of they're role without breaking the rules. Why? Because a celestial is LINKED to the Gods and controled by them. They exist just by a single purpose. And if they fail or turn rogue they either die, lose their powers or become something darker. And honestly, a fallen demonic Sphinx truly is something cool if they want to do It.
But now you CAN'T play the Sphinx as a random monster or do roleplaying in them not wanting to guard anything because It would break the rules. What about a story where you help a Sphinx be freed of they're job? You can't, they're linked to a power much greater than you, and even if you reclaim what they're guarding they'll need to guard something else. They're literally 24h underpaid workers now and I hate that.
Also, the other two Sphinxes that existed before they're now surely gone.

My cat is no longer alive, but sometimes when I'm sick I swear I can feel his spirit curled up next to my head just like he used to do. So maybe my version of a sphinx of wonder would be an incorporeal undead who can cast cure wounds, lesser restoration, and calm emotions. And if he chooses you as a familiar, he gives you advantage on any charisma checks against other incorporeal undead. And since his favorite IRL prey item was spiders, perhaps I'd also make his attacks do extra damage to spiders, and give him resistance to poison damage and immunity to the poisoned condition. Idk just spitballing ideas but I think that would be cool. Binx the Sphinx.

My sphinx of wonder has been reskinned into a hollyphant because I‘ve always wanted to play a kindly loxodon conjurer with a hollyphant-like familiar who thinks humans with monkey familiars are weird and he‘s normal. And this statblock is perfectly suited for any cute lil flying celestial friend
