Magnus Carlsen, Hikaru Nakamura, and six more of the world's best players compete for a $200,000 top prize in the 2023 Champions Chess Tour Finals in Toronto, Canada, from December 10-16. The event starts with a round-robin, from where the top two players go directly to the semi-finals, the bottom two are eliminated, and the middle four play a survival stage to decide the last two spots in the knockout. The winner of the four-player knockout takes the title. The games are all played at a chessboard, with a time control of 15 minutes for all moves, plus a 3-second increment after each move. The round-robin and survival are played in two-game matches, with Armageddon to decide a tie. The final knockout matches are played as two 4-game sets, with Armageddon if the match is tied 1-1.
