The Mary Tyler Moore Show Season 7, Episode 22: Mary's Big Party

Mary hosts a dinner party with the expectation that Johnny Carson, the host of NBC's "The Tonight Show," will attend. Then, without warning, the electricity goes out before Carson arrives.

Carson does in fact guest-star in this episode, but he is only heard in the dark and not seen. The reason for this, supposedly, is that Carson's contract at the time with NBC did not allow him to appear on a rival network . . . but it said nothing about his voice being aired on said rival network.

This is my least favorite "Mary Tyler Moore" episode ever. Power outages are not funny.
