Prometheus (2012) - Snake Scene - The Hammerpede [ HDR - 4K - 5.1 ]

So like.. we’re like some kinda…scientist squad.

I watched this movie when I was like 12 and this scene in particular scared me so bad.

Hammerpedes loves them some scritches!

Both this movie and Covenant has so many stupid character decisions, but by far, trying to pet a unknown alien creature is the stupidest.

How stupid can one person be? “Oh look an alien snake that clearly isn’t happy, I think I’ll touch it” 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

I think the really annoying thing about the stupidity in this scene is how unnecessary it is to advance the plot. They could have easily written it slightly differently in a way that didn't make the scientist act like a four year old. Have him back away cautiously from the cobra in front of him for example, only to get attacked by on behind him that he hadn't seen. Same outcome, plot moves along exactly the same.

I took this scene to mean that mankind's curiosity can be very arrogant (ignoring signs of danger, etc)

There were cut scenes where the astronauts where petting friendly, non-black blood, Hammerpedes.

Because white people.

Dumbest writing ever.

Literally the dumbest ecologist in the history of humanity; without starting on xenobiology even earth biology would have indicated the Hammerpede was exhibiting a threat response. Imagine if a scientist saw a funnel web rear up and their response was “hey baby ☺️ - it’s fascinated 😃”

I mean I’m not the smartest person but if I ever was in some uncharted unknown alien planet I know I would NOT fuck with the indigenous life. This thing has “ I’ll hurt & kill you” all over it. It’s a no for me

People keep thinking people dislike this movie because it leaves more questions than answers. The real reason people don’t like it is because of scenes like this. I like the movie, don’t get me wrong, I think it is beautifully shot, I enjoyed the main character, and it has some interesting philosophies, but there are some really dumb moments and this scene is one of them.

Ignoring the stupidity in this scene, there really are some fantastic horror moments in it. One that doesn’t get mentioned is the acid making the glass melt onto his face. That’s just terrifying to think of what that felt like

one of the dumbest decisions in a horror movie ever. That death snake was telling him to fuck off in every other language except plain English.

People always get mad at this scene for the one guy in the glasses being so unbelievably stupid, but this scene is quite realistic...people like this exist in the world. People have been making extremely idiotic decisions every second of every day since the beginning of time.
