ATC literally cleared them on 29 after he figured out it was closed his story changed
ОтветитьProcedures in this airport are crappy.
Ответить"If not off in 3 minutes..." made it a very confused message, "Hold at 2 9 and await clearance" would have prevented any such issues.
ОтветитьThis sounds like a Fsx steam edition lobby where people are normal
ОтветитьI think ATC was clear, but I see the confusion of giving any clearance on a closed runway. Tell them to line up but not cleared, and give them the clear when you open the runway
ОтветитьOwn your mistake you loser pilot
ОтветитьI don't like that ATC at all. Do not give clearance at a future time. Clear them when the runway is open. Not 5 minutes before and say wait for it.
ОтветитьThis happened Tuesday June 25,2024. Runway 29 has been closed since april 21, between the hours of 10:30pm and 5:45am for runway repairs. There was a ground crew still on the runway when they started moving. Luckily, the ground crew were paying attention and moved off the runway.
ОтветитьYo I work at this airport lol
PWM
"If not off in 3 minutes, advise boston.. also, it's closed for the next 3 minutes"
ОтветитьThis is why a controller should never use the word "takeoff" unless they're actually issuing a takeoff clearance.
ОтветитьThis is scary!!
ОтветитьWhat in the hell kind of clearance is this? What’s wrong with “lineup and wait?“ Then at the designated time when the runway is clear call “clear for takeoff.“
ОтветитьFirst of all, why would he ever put a plane on a closed runway I’m not a pilot. I’m a damn truck driver, but I’d like to know why air traffic controller was literally put a plane on the runway that’s already closed. That’s like saying go ahead and go on a highway that is closed.
ОтветитьThat's why I have a bright ass light bar on my truck
Ответить"oh well, I'm in the air now b*tch .... Send the sky police to get me"
ОтветитьIve never heard such weird atc instructions and Ive heard a lot.
ОтветитьHere's a thought... Don't clear a plane for take off when the runway is not clear for takeoff?
ОтветитьGood lord the ATC in the US is a disaster!!??
ОтветитьThey can’t use the same time ?
ОтветитьSouthWORST airlines.
ОтветитьCommercial pilot for about 25 years. Never heard a so confusing clearance. Especially if your native language is not english.
ОтветитьSounfs like word salad, what could possibly go wrong
ОтветитьTexas pilots..😂.French fried taters..mmmhmm
ОтветитьSouthwest 4805:😁
KLM 4805:💀
Thats the towers mistake....... told him to take off in 3 minutes.....
ОтветитьSounded more like ATC was pushing his windows to get airborne? Could have instructed hold short of 29 until cleared for TO!
ОтветитьWhat?!!!
Ответитьsounds to me like he took off without a clearance no?
ОтветитьIts svary how many mistakes are made amd its all human error😮😮😮😮
ОтветитьATC told him he could take of in 3 minutes but no later than 5 minutes. Pilot needed to listen better
ОтветитьHow come Boston Center first gives him a departure clearance without mentioning the closed runway, but after departure suddenly knows exactly that there was a closed runway?
ОтветитьGood ATC ,sloppy pilot .
ОтветитьThis is totally unacceptable... Lifes are inside that plane and so others...
ОтветитьATC should have just said “line up and wait”
ОтветитьSo many people in the comments who aren’t pilots is hilarious. ATC DID INDEED mean they had 3 minutes to be airborne. The control tower was closed at the time and the runway happened to be closed for the next 3 minutes. Southwest probably didn’t check that and just departed the closed runway. The controller that gave them clearance was clearing them into the airspace not for takeoff specifically from that airport. The controller that cleared them into the airspace is the controller that oversees traffic in the larger area surrounding that airport and when the tower is closed, you have to get clearance from them to depart into their airspace. If they hadn’t been airborne within 3 minutes, he wanted them to call back no later than 5 minutes to tell them wtf they’re doing so that they can get another slot into the airspace.
ОтветитьThese are not clear instructions from ATC. And that's why standardizing helps. He could have said to line up and wait, and that the runway was still closed. And repeat the last part, because it's important. The way it was portrayed, it seemed like the pilot had 3m to takeoff, or clearance would be revoked. Do not reinvent the wheel.
ОтветитьATC fault
ОтветитьBasically ATC should have corrected the pilot "Thats takeoff cleared IN three minutes, not cleared FOR three minutes."
Or, really, just "Hold for takeoff, vehicle on runway."
tower guy says "clearance in 3 minutes" and he also says "no later than 5 minutes". Pretty clearly indicates that pilot is expected to wait until 3 minutes have elapsed, at which point he'd have 2 minutes to lift off. I do think that mixing up your command parlance is not smart, and I support rigidly standardized radio language.
ОтветитьThe ATC didn't give clearly understandable instructors.
ОтветитьWho were speaking as written in green?
ОтветитьWas the pilot risking to kill himself with other crew & passengers to follow him die together? 😱. Was it so important for the pilot to be correct in that case?
ОтветитьRandom question: Are ATC controllers required to take regular English language grammar examinations?
ОтветитьDoes ATC allow for variance in airplane clocks, or are they all supposed to be adjusted regularly to match a master clock?
ОтветитьEven ground thought atc was telling them to takeoff within 3 minutes that's why he piped in.
This is ATC 's fault
Was this at PWM??? Geesh... Someone needs to synch their clocks!!! I would imagine the airport vehicle was on the runway to "open" it...
"VALID to take off in three minutes"
It was the "if not off in 3 minutes" that caused the confusion. Made it sound like them departing in more than 3 minutes would be a problem rather than the expectation.
ОтветитьChad
ОтветитьI am not a pilot nor an atc expert. IMO all the atc had to tell him hold short of runway 29 or line up and wait. Too much bla bla bla. Very confusing.
