Why the water bottle? It still sprayed all over the rim brake surface. If you did it a dozen times it might get the chain a little cleaner. And your brakes well lubricated too.

Ask someone to spin for you, it will be a lot more quicker and effective. You are just cleaning the spot where you start, then depositing the gunk all over the chain.
Basically you just use the 2 tooth brushes as a guide / dirt remover, and let the spray do its job.

Wd 40 is not lubricant. It displaces water
