Two iiNet techs couldn't solve it? Ha, pull the other one. (~25 year iiNet customer and yes I believe you 100%)

I can see a comment from you (7 days before now) saying that the issue was fixed by NBN Co, do you know what they actually did? As well as noting that the upstairs socket was patched to the wrong pair coming in from the street, you determined there was a network issue as well even when the right inbound pair was found?

Also was this site visit of yours about a year ago, is that why the tag (on the wrong lead-in cable) says October 2023?

iinet were such a great company. I knew the guy that started the company from his back shed. When TPG bought it out, there went iinet, down to the bottom of the heap!

I'm an old PMG tech (yes, I am that old) and ITC Manager. No one in my day would have left a cable cabinet in that condition. The techs (can they be called that, maybe cowboys) that created and left that mess should be banned from holding a license. As to the techs that checked this service issue, what can I say? You pay lettuce you get rabbits.

Geebus - what a horror.
I am incredibly thankful that my upgrade from HFC to FTTC, then FTTP actually worked.
I actually fought hard to stay on HFC because at least I knew I had a stable 100 down, and had so for a decade+ at that point.
There was no way I was going onto FTTN - but when they laid fibre in the court for FTTC, I was kind of swayed.
Current;y paying for 250 down - and it's been stable - but will investigate faster should a good offer come along.

Heh heh, wired from the curb to the house junction, back out to the curb- FTTCTTHTTC. The equivilent of plugging an extension lead inlet into it's own outlet, and two contractors figured the client had discovered infinite free internet and should leave it be.

No longer with nbn, not affiliated with any Service Provider
When I was working with the Tech Support team in nbn, the only Service Provider techs and support team we listened to as providing credible information and correct action taken, was Aussie BB.
The rest were all transactional derps, button pushers using minimal effort to collect relevant information leading to wasted truck rolls and delayed restorations.
When it works, its great, but when it fails and you need it restored first time...? That's where you get what you paid for.

As an ex security technician that had to deal with messes like this on a weekly basis, yes, there are some complete cowboys out there that have no idea what they are doing.
I was doing alarm connections in NZ when ADSL was the new thing in NZ. Some of the complete messes I ran into were like this.
Some people just don't give a shit, if it works when they leave, the don't care any further.

FTTC really stinks, I live in the third world, and have FTTH, no need to have janky half century old copper to provide a connection. Friend pays for gigabit symmetrical, and generally will get half that, but it will do gigabit at 3AM though most days.

I moved in to a city strata office where I swear the whole building was held together with obsolete wiring dating back to the 1980s. We got things working eventually, but I paid the contractor extra just to come back in on the weekend and clear out every bit of cable and tech that wasn't necessary. I reckon I slept better after that.

Maybe you get used to it being a professional, but I can barely even look at the sort of mess you showed here without feeling ill.

I've fought NBN Co on a number of occasions, I always recommend escalating to The Industry Ombudsman as soon as you are allowed to (typically 2 weeks). I've had a a few customers reimbursed or simply on free internet for many months after showing the issues with FTTN/HFC were with NBN. TIO doesn't mess about and have the regulatory power to make NBN Co pay attention.

A few years ago we had extremely poor or non existent internet for 9 months. Countless calls to our provider were fruitless. Technicians from shady companies would provide dubious fixes that didn't last. To make matters worse everytime a technician worked on a pole not only would my connection die, but apparently, the Mac address on my line did not correspond to the Mac address of my modem. Now, just a month ago they installed fibre cable across the road, but the houses in my street are still connected by copper wire. Two streets away they get 1000mbps, we barely get 30mbps on a good day, so I finally gave the NBN the flick and got 100mbps 5G and saved one-third of the cost.

my grandfather used to work for telstra, back when it was pmg and telecom, he said telecom was its glory days as when it turned into telstra the workmanship started to deteriorate, and often would say to the directors and project managers at the time that the workers were being paid too much money for the quality that they were doing. He worked as a foreman mainly for the service and maintenance towers in prestons nsw, and the expansion of the network west towards lithgow and mudgee and south west ways towards wogga wogga, he was awarded a medal for 37 years of service from telstra

NBN pay the office staff and management massive salaries . But pay min wages to the contractors. They often allocate jobs far away for the contactor and when they get there its been cancelled as it took too long to get there so don't pay for the contactors time.and they don't give enough time to the contactor to do a proper job.And there is no quality control because that is and additional cost.

Bloody hell. I used to be disappointed that NBN cheaped out in my area and only gave us fixed wireless. But looking at that mess, I reckon we probably dodged a bullet there.

But anything NBN is an expensive palaver - we are replacing our roof with new tin at the moment. Several screws secure the fixed wireless antenna to the old sheet of tin on the roof. No one's allowed to touch them except NBN approved techies of course, because they are NBN screws I guess? Anyway, 3 NBN cancelled and rescheduled appointments later, the whole roof job is still not finished because of these jokers. And the greatest insult of all, I had to pay them $700 in advance for the privelege of holding up my new roof by a week and a half.

Thank God I left the industry 2 years ago, I have had to clean up messes like this and re-do whole suburbs again because of cowboys doing the install of fibre from the exchange to end point.
What you see in Thailand above your head, is what NBN/Tel$a looks like underground. (Not everywhere but a lot of places).
You have those with the expertise and knew what they are doing have left and you have what's left (large number of smart people walked away).
Very little people that are qualified are left to do the jobs.
DO NOT GET INTO THIS INDUSTRY!!! YOU WILL BE UNDERPAID OVERWORKED!!
Also ISP create extra work that's not needed to bill NBN or end users.

My parents had problems for years with their internet. So many Telstra engineers had come out and looked and not been able to sort it out. Telstra eventually sent out an NBN tech and within 5 minutes he had identified a hidden phone connection somewhere in their walls that must have been interrupting the internet. He disconnected that pair and everything worked perfect. It was eye opening to see someone that knew what they were doing being able to diagnose and fix compared to the other blokes that crawled all over the house for no reason, just milking hours.

The last time I looked NBN techs do a 2 week course, I've had some great ones, natural talent, and some shockers. Unfortunately it's what we've ended up with, I was excited when I heard about NBN, fibre all the way, I was 70 year old copper mixed with fibre and a constantly filled with water pit, I'm surprised my internet actually worked, full fibre here now and zero issues since it was done 1.5 years ago.
