I'm a fan of component upgrades, but you went too far. Shimano 9-speed was the best they ever produced, and super convenient because all components are swappable (7-9 and 10-speed road). The top spec XTR dual-control levers gave a level of thumb-free functionality that has been discontinued.
ОтветитьSo Cool! I am amazed by the 52 tooth.
ОтветитьCan you fit a 32 or 34 tooth chainring on that frame? 30T x12 on a 26” wheel is going to be very limited on top speed.
ОтветитьSick dude!
ОтветитьThis is the type of video I’ve been waiting for!
ОтветитьDear god. The more videos I watch on this channel the more ideas I have and that means the more dollars I convince myself I need to spend. Shocking.
ОтветитьIs it worth going to 11 speed (on a 1 x) on a 26 inch wheel? Isn’t 10 speed enough in a 1 x scenario?
ОтветитьSo is this 130mm axle spacing?
ОтветитьThe 1 by front chain ring is a marketing gimmick. 3 by is always better. More versatile.
ОтветитьI WANT THAT FORK!!
ОтветитьAnother coffee shop keeping us bikers going. Got to love it
ОтветитьPlease, help me understand the gearing on this bike! I started riding with a low gear of 42/28 and my 17 year old legs took me up anything paved (even if I did have to zig zag). Now my 39/32 is tough lol. My GT Mountain bike is geared so low (22/36) granny gear I can barely keep the bike upright unless I'm over 100 cadence. Just plain silly IMHO
ОтветитьDid this with an old 2004 mongoose full suspension bike and pretty much put the parts bin special on it. My fiance isn't super big into mountain so I don't want to waste the money to buy her a modern geometry frame. So its pretty much a mullet 69er with a modern rockshox front and rear shock with hydraulic brakes and modern hubs. Thing rides great but I wouldnt want to race on it.
ОтветитьThat Deore FC-M5100-1 crankset is supposed to have a 52 mm chainline. That will be about 2mm more than a 3x crankset I believe. Did you experience any issues with the shifting or when backpedalling?
Thinking of doing the same (if I can get parts one of these days!) but I am not sure about shifthing, backpedalling issues?
Cheers!
Do you need new cranks for this set up or are they just extra touch up???
ОтветитьIs it possible to do this with an all-new rear hub or will i run into problems with OLD?
ОтветитьNice to see this if you look it up online you can’t find any info ever
ОтветитьHoly shit please ride up steep shit !
ОтветитьWhat bottom bracket and size was used? I have trek 7000, just trying to make sure I order the right size
Ответитьwhats wrong with dream build videos?
ОтветитьI got a 12sp on a 1994 trek 830shx had to play with the chainline
ОтветитьI have a 1997 GT palomar. Does anyone know if I can convert it to 1 x 10 or 1x11 (what I really want)?
ОтветитьWell, you can install anything as long as the frame supports components
ОтветитьI love your channel!. What you do with your bikes is the same thing i do.
ОтветитьLooks cool, but why doing it is a good idea?, you'll have less gears, more stressed and thin chain that breaks easily, the derailleur is more exposed so way easier to destroy, more expensive cause parts aren't free 🤷♂️🤔
ОтветитьNow hs33 magura brakes
ОтветитьAwesome
ОтветитьGreat video currently building up a trek 850 antelope so this helps a lot 👍
Ответитьso you didn't have to re-dish the wheel ?
ОтветитьGreat product, easy to clean -worked out great !
ОтветитьHello, interesting to see this.
I have the same setup on my bike which is much modern than yours.
What chainline you have there? On my bike I put 4mm spacers on crank to make CL perfect.
51 biggest cog on 26" wheels MTB.... 11 speed rear derailleur reaaaaaally long. On the first obstacle jumping, you'll leave the derailleur's cage on the ground. It's so close on 51....
ОтветитьWith quadruple and quintuple custom cranksets, it would be possible to get rid of huge frying pans on the rear hub, especially on the tiny 26" wheel of a retro mtb, because, as Jan Heine wrote, «Now the time has finally come to go beyond three chainrings». A really modern bike with a really modern solution is not a 1x12 drivetrain, but was already presented in 1973 at the Salon de Cycle in Paris by Alex Singer.
ОтветитьI’m in a similar situation, I have a Cannondale lefty I’m rebuilding as my pimp hardtail bike, but then I have 2 super nice, super clean mid-late 90’s mountain bikes, and I’m going to start building a replica of my first mountain bike, so I’m going to end up with 3 rigid, 10-12 speed mountain bikes, plus I have a GT Avalanche I plan to make into a 26” BMX like yours, but my biggest and most exciting build will be a Klunker I’m planning. Disc brake conversion, maybe sprung front, maybe solid, not sure, some nice steel wheels with a 1 x 12 most likely, balloon tyres, I’m really keen for that!
ОтветитьI wish there were some smaller 11 speed cassettes. I don't need a 50 tooth. Even 40 tooth
ОтветитьI have a 90's trek and I want to do this to it. Looking forward to watch your other videos on this bike
ОтветитьTurning into a good build.
Ответить30x51 on a 26" wheel is very low gearing! I'd have gone 36 teeth on the front to start with.
ОтветитьWheel size?
ОтветитьI got one of those forks. It's a Marzochi XC600 Titanium air fork.
ОтветитьI went to the local dump to get rid of some scrap metal and there were PILES old mountain bikes in a twisted up heap that were destroyed by a bull dozer. 😒
ОтветитьWhat about the axle length?????
ОтветитьThis was some lame plug and play you didn't need to do anything to the frame lucky you
ОтветитьYo man! I need help, i did the exact same. Change the freehub. Everything went fine until i installed the derailleur. I got the same 11 speed. Btw my bike is a biacnhi theridion. Well, long story short. It wont shift to the smallest cog! Like 3 to 2 lowest cogs! Should i redish the wheel, cuz i added spacers in the axles. Braaaaaaaaa pls! 😭😭😭😭💀💀💀💀💀🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
ОтветитьI'd rather use a triple crankset with a smaller freewheel. Those huge freewheels are heavy.
