I was thinking the opposite. Thought this battle was going to be the rest of my life.
ОтветитьMy alcoholic sister told me she was an alcoholic 6-7 years ago. I didn’t think much of it. Now, I’m confronting her about being mean. “Does the alcohol do it, or did you learn it from Dad”? She calls me names, says I’m no angel but doesn’t answer the question. Then off she goes on some trip where she can drink and be distracted from “it” whatever “it” is. Well, it’s family dysfunction that she refuses to face. I’ve faced it and here I sit, alone, quiet and literally ecstatic thinking about a good breakfast then my 3 mile walk along the waterfront. Ecstatic that I made it through “the work” of facing my dark past. Literally ecstatic!
ОтветитьBro. You've got me thinking. The fighter in me, the face forward bring it on spirit in me roars YES. It's a label I used and felt like a victim.
I'm no longer a victim. Fuck that 👍
I like your take on it. 🥰
ОтветитьI'm on day 15 ...have no urge to drink today...won't worry about tomorrow till tomorrow.
ОтветитьWhat’s in a name? A LOT! Just like we shouldn’t call women who are having a bad day b-tches, we shouldn’t call people dealing with a alcohol use disorder alcoholics. I find the term offensive personally, but some people don’t mind the old term. I think it paints the issue and people with too broad a broad brush. IMHO
ОтветитьIs it a cult.
AA. another bloody addiction..
So I
have friends who are members of alcoholics anonymous .
Seems like it's another bloody addiction.
They refer to us who don't drink as.
Normies.
Like we are aliens.
I wanna say I'm not quite sure what to make of ...
Sorry Sorry Dyslexic trying to make the best here..
Good for them if it works .
However, they deliberately put themselves in a position of narcissism...
i love this! F*** that! lol. i hated AA and how it made me feel. it never made sense to me to call myself an alcoholic if i didn’t drink alcohol. if i don’t drink, isn’t that the opposite of an “alcoholic”?! their philosophy is antiquated, leads to failure, and makes people feel terrible about themselves.
Ответить🙏
ОтветитьIm glad ive done it without AA .
ОтветитьIf you're an alcoholic and you call yourself an alcoholic and it makes you feel like crap that's the whole point because you're a shity person as a alcoholic. The shame game is legit. Just soft vaginas have a issue with it.
ОтветитьI Never really liked the taste of booze. Otherswise id probably get drunk all the time. I smoke pot instead.
ОтветитьAwesome 😎
ОтветитьThat's exactly right😂 I hate Alcoholic Anonymous!!! I made me drink more😢 so negative. Cult😂😂
ОтветитьGod bless you
ОтветитьYou right. ❤
ОтветитьFrom all the science I've come across on the issue, it seems much more a response to trauma &/societal problems rather than genetics. Relatedly, EMDR &/medicinal psychoactive plants (psilocybin, for example) may be worth looking into.
ОтветитьIt's much more empowering to say I'm a person who chose to quit drinking.
ОтветитьOne thing I did when I successfully quit drinking (I say successfully because it was a 30 day stint and I made it 31 so it was a success given the parameters I set up) was that I’d ONLY say “no thanks I don’t drink” or “o I’m not a drinker.” This was in part to change my own identity in my OWN head, and to start moving into the mind of someone who didn’t drink. I really had very few temptations during that time and now that I remember that I’m going to start again with that tactic. Because you’re right; too much shame and sorrow and defeat in that label. If you just say “I don’t drink” it starts to rebuild your brain and doesn’t invite the same questions or reminiscing as say even “I don’t drink anymore.” Drop the anymore and the A word 😅
ОтветитьYep, alcoholic is a state of mind, and though my behaviours before giving up drinking resembled those of a classic alcoholic as portrayed in movies, I never thought of myself as an alcoholic. 😁😁😁
