game and level design really changed with the adoption of widescreen from 2005 onwards - FPS more so than others.
Some things were lost in this transition, which also covers color output and readability.
I still don't need realism and story and all that from a game. I have the...you know...REALITY for that. From a game I want fun and joy, doesn't matter if it's not realistic, even better if not. Why to blend the two?! So I still vote for the old Unreal Tournament and other old games in general. What the heck. Why the people want to change their reality to a fake reality? That's very dangerous.
ОтветитьI still play UT2004.
To me it never gets old.
Sometimes I take a break from the game for a few months but I always come back to it because modern day shooters suck.
Too much focus on getting loot instead of being an actual skilled player who only cares about his kills.
I doubt modern society is able to handle the stress and willpower to play thousands of 1on1 duells in arena FPS games... I did and i couldnt do that anymore... Sometimes i question myself how i was able to do that.. Guess we just had no other choice/alternatives at that time. Hero shooters like overwatch and battleroyal are just more fun to play than TDM, CTF, 1on1.. Arena FPS envolved into these new genres. I loved that golden era of arena FPS though because we had no SBMM and it felt rewarding in becoming better...
ОтветитьMake UT99 great again !!
Ответитьits simple. as a old schooler of fps games. the game must be fun first. you can strip the game of all its eye candy, but if it doesnt have fundamental game mechanics that make it fun, it will die no matter how much sugar is coated.
ОтветитьUT99 has OldUnreal
UT2004 has the community patch
And UT4 has OpenUT4 or UUT4
Still can’t believe they pulled all of the unreal games down. Nonsense and a spit in the face to the fans that helped get that company to where it is now
ОтветитьLoser casual mainstream gamers who are okay paying fo online loot boxes and battle passes idiot ruined gaming period
Ответитьpls give me source 1 arena shooter where everyone bhops on maps designed for this
ОтветитьI had a friend tell me that Doom 2016 is an Arena shooter. I laughed in his face.
ОтветитьI personally feel part of the decline was planned by key figures in the industry such as epic games, who wanted their consumers to try their latest newest thing. I will never forgive them for canning Unreal Tournament 4 to focusing all their effort on fortnite.
ОтветитьArena shooters aren't entirely dead yet. We still have Halo going strong.
ОтветитьFunny, Epic Games solely developed unreal engine for Unreal Tournament 1999 and all the other sequels then gave up on the franchise once Fortnite released! I don't want to live on this planet anymore.
ОтветитьI grew up on halo and golden eye and worlds not enough and unreals I loved the gore of unreal and simplicity of halo and the sound of the portals of halo hahahah😂
ОтветитьGrew up playing Duke Nukem and Serious Sam. And then Titanfall 2 was the shit.
Ответитьuntil straftat
ОтветитьI am the last person who still plays UT99 GOTY.
ОтветитьUnreal Tournament 3 killed the series! UT99 and UT2004 were both amazing <3
ОтветитьThe arena shooter isn't outdated.
The problem is that modern gamers want:
match making
play with friends
leagues
tournaments
We are yet to see any arena shooters offer all of this. While Splitgate was fun, it got boring because there were no leagues or team play.
Halo had arena shoot aspects.
ОтветитьWhat are the soundtracks did you use in this video?
ОтветитьUT 2K4 was my jam! I played that two towers map for thousands of hours. On Mac even! It actually gave me video game addiction which I had to address, and took an 18 year break from gaming.
Ответитьall my homies know splatoon is the most innovative and fun arena shooter ever made.
ОтветитьI stIrI started with Quake but after few weeks I switched to UT. I really liked that every weapon had two modes of firing. Also found the game was more tactical, for example if you really wanted to be good in DM you had you have a 55 seconds timer in your head. CTF was where teamwork and cooperation won you games and it set the bar quite high for the rest.
I never really switched to 2003 (and later) as the mechanics were different. I still have the 99 on CD and play it from time to time. Two weeks ago an idea popped in my head - to organize a small LAN party. It won't be the same though - back in the days you would be carrying a 17" on your back. Nowadays kids would bring a 16" laptop under their arm. Not to mention most games don't/can't have a local server, everything is somewhere in the cloud.
The only reason i know about this is through warframe
ОтветитьSplitgate Kind of brought it back
Ответитьwhat killed it is the halo getting woke
ОтветитьIf people find reasons to play counter strike, they can find the reasons to play games like UT and Quake.
I think problem begins when an average players meet a good player. Suddenly it feels unbalancec and there is nothing players can do about it.
Fortnite killed it
ОтветитьAIM-Assist, Skill based Matchmaking, Heroes. That's what killed Arena Shooters. Kids just can't aim today.
ОтветитьQuake 25 + year old game still looks more interesting than anything modern today. That's a testament to how good this game was.
ОтветитьI'm so pissed Epic took down all Unreal Tournament games. They should just sell the IP to someone who will take care of it and make new games.
ОтветитьRIP UT, you will be missed <3
ОтветитьI think that as games in the FPS genre continue to get more and more complex, with higher and higher paywalls, noticeable drops in product quality due to yearly releases, the players are going to want something a little more approachable and "brain off, haha guns go brrrrt" without all the crap that comes with multiplayer games from AAA studios. At this point, if a dev can get an arena shooter done right, and marketed well, I think the genre could have another golden age, but a lot of depends on banking on the continued incompetence from major studios.
The real problem is the target audience. You need to appeal to the boomers. My clan. The 30+ crew who grew up on Quake and UT. Splitgate looks sick, but also very... obviously marketed to the younger generation.
It's a trap card from EpicGames, they could make a Reboot with a good, well-made story and new gameplay and people will play it
ОтветитьEpic's abandonment of UT is a big hole. UT3 sucked, and they started what they thought would be a community-driven UT, but it then got abandoned in favor of all Fortnite all the time. But UT2004 was the GOAT, and it got delisted earlier this year, and I'm still upset.
ОтветитьI miss joining a server and just having a few rounds with my friends
ОтветитьWonky unrealistic movement mechanics killed them
ОтветитьHackers are killing online gaming
ОтветитьHalo switching out of the Arena Shooter genre was a blow to me tbh
ОтветитьBest arena FPS EVER will be Midnight Guns that is currently in alpha. Full steam release in 2025. Playtesting through patreon available now.
ОтветитьI still think Unreal Tournament 3 is one of the best games of all time
ОтветитьYeah being a 2001 kid I know this games thanks to my dad
ОтветитьThe best game ever made, bought my first PC because of this game, how good was going to a local LAN gameshop for a local clan league, good old days, it was packed full of people
Ответитьmy best multiplayer experience was around 2003:
15 bodies and me. four Xbox with Halo 1, 4 TVs and 8vs8 Blood Gulch capture the flag in the attic of my parents house.
AWESOME!!!
The reason why area shooters from days past are still better than days present is very simple: hit detection was fair and consistent at ALL times. There are no perks, no skills, no abilities, no bullshit +5 to frost resist. Everyone gets the same gear. If you're good at the game you do well, period.
ОтветитьIf youre seeing this now, ut99 is on internet archive. Get the vulkan mod, etc and go to town. Even with a gew friends SO MUCH CONTENT
ОтветитьHalo: CE
ОтветитьUnreal tournament goty❤❤❤❤
