As a side note I just want to point out that the wiimote's rear port is an i2c bus, with the nunchuk, classic controller, motion + sensor, and all other accessories on that port using an i2c bus format. the snes controller port uses latched data pins, not i2c; while the 'wiimote port shaped connector' on the dock does in fact use i2c, as do the recent 'mini' controllers Ninty has released, it's not quite accurate from a wiring or data connection perspective to say they're the "literally just the supernintendo connector but in a different form factor" in the same way that it's not accurate to say that a 1980's serial joystick port is "literally just a USB-C connector but in a different form factor".

The fun thing about i2c, though, is that it has enough pins to be dual-wired, that is to say, you could shove an i2c chip into a snes controller, and make a hardware-less pin-to-pin adapter to plug an snes controller into a wiimote port, and boom, it works. (Still need an active converter chip in there somewhere, but they do have the same NUMBER of pins, so it's technically feasible to do both.)

Seems like you could kitbash this into a consolizer fairly easily and avoid needing to stuff it all into a shell with a screen.

For all of the effort that went into designing the internals of this thing, you'd think the dock would be a bit nicer looking/actually support the console rather then have it just sit on top of the port. It is a cool mod regardless if a little pointless. Just needs some slightly less jank too it if that is even possible with these mods.

There is a new HDMI kit on the market from the same manufacturer including display and OSD. I would be happy if you could test that as well.

Makho, are you planning on making a video on the version of this kit that has the ips screen built into the motherboard for it? i was interested in it and was wondering if you were going to make a video on it to see more about it before i bought it.

After ordering 4 weeks ago, today i finally built my ultimate Gba with the dock. Biggest problem was soldering the power Chip from the board. After 8 hours everything works. Only problem i cutted the usbc hole too much out. Im searching for a solution, maybe any Silicon pad to fill the hole. Its my second ips build and im very proud i made it. I ordered v2 but i think it is a neweer one then yours. Display was already connected to the hdmi board. If you know any shell with hdmi out port pre cut, let me know. It takes hours to make the shell ready. Tha k you very much, wothout your video i wouldnt had any idea ❤

Did you get the pressure spot figured out?

that's really an exhausting mod. i got another ips display, but adding the dock makes the gba so thick that it puts pressure against the display... which also caused your white spot.

got to do a lot of trimming now... but actually don't know where to start. lol

also hate the fact that i have to unsolder a lot of parts again.

Hello, do you think the dock mod is safe? Meaning it won’t make your GBA explode or overheat?

I can kind of understand the janky dock design. There is no way to guarantee the USB C connector will be positioned the same on each install, so the dock can't be designed to fit more snugly on the console. Now if that is their actual reasoning or not, who knows.

It's a shame USB-C extension cables don't reliably have every pin connected. Tried a couple with mine and they would charge but no video. That may be a work around. The better solution would be shells built with this mod in mind, then the dock could be built to work specifically with those shells and provide a better fit.

Hello ! I watched some parts of the video and I have just a small question ! My Elgato Capture Card sometimes gets the sound from the dock, but I get no image and I can't find a way around it. I seem to be using the same cables as you but you seem to have changed something and said " I know why the capture card doesn't work " but you didin't give a clear answer why. Could you help out with this ? That would be awesome. Thank you so much and good work on your video.

Annoyingly had to wait a month for a SN30 to arrive via Ali and when it does found out the audio lags by about a second once you have been playing for 10 min or so. Until this point not played for that long as i didn't have a fully working controller.

Did you experience this? Wondering if its a me issue (maybe PAL vs NTSC, maybe my telly settings etc).

There are unused pins on the USB-c connector, i could route audio through there and put a line out on the dock but that is a faff.

My kit is different. it has wires soldered already onto the pcb for tp1 and tp0. Do i need to put those anywhere?

I installed it and it has problem with most controllers I hook on the wiimote "nes mini" port. Only it doesn't make sense... Snes classic USA works, the European doesn't, neither does NES mini or Wii Pro. Any ideas? Snes port seems to work fine.

Do you think it would be managable to desolder the usbc male connector on the dock and wire my own male connector? I want to 3d print my own formfactor that puts the plug somewhere else.

Hi, I am about to get this mod and I have the following question. If I connect a USB C -> HDMI cable to the gameboy advance and the HDMI is connected to a video capture machine, can I play and capture my game without the screen turning off?
