Volodymyr Zelensky has invited Marina Abramović, the renowned performance artist, to serve as Ukraine's ambassador.

Abramović, often referred to as the pioneer and matriarch of performance art — arguably its sole famous figure — was born in Belgrade in the former Yugoslavia in 1946. She once remarked to a journalist, "When people inquire about my origins, I refrain from saying Serbia. I always mention that I hail from a land that no longer exists." In one of her most renowned early works, "Rhythm 0" (1974), Abramović surrounded herself with 72 objects, ranging from a delicate rose to a sharp scalpel to a loaded gun, and permitted her audience to interact with these items as they saw fit over a span of six hours.
