I remember growing up hearing "Bob White" every morning as I got ready for school.

The Bison did their thing, maybe with help from the 'firestarters' helping to make more grazing area.

I wish the same efforts that saved the white tail deer from extinction that was done in my area of Scioto county ohio was done with bison in the entirety of their natural habitat

I've went from mowing 7/10 acres to letting it grow over and just cutting areas in rotation. Flowers everywhere. Lots of violet, oriental false hawksbeard, blue toadflax, woodsorell, Persian speedwell. Just a few of the ones I've found this year. Image search on Google really helps with ID. I'll be covered in Virginia bluebell in a week or two it always comes up mowing or not. Downside is armadillo holes, room to hide and dig. Armadillo is not native to AL. I'd let it grow over more but privet... and Bradford pears would take over in a minute and the neighbors are practically farming them. I'll never be rid of them.
