As it relates to the Penguins, rather than focus on Crosby who likely isn't happening, how about Malkin as a stopgap 2C? One year left on his contract, still somewhat productive, and, as Demidov noted in the playoffs, his favourite player growing up. As a player, he could be the mentor that would most help Demidov both on and off the ice. He is a fellow Russian who was a high draft pick and became a star. As well, the cap hit isn't overwhelming.

This draft is deep enough in the top 20 for Montreal to secure good players at 16 OA and 17 OA. Hughes has an enough assets to move up marginally to secure the player(s) they have targeted. Everyone should take a deep breath.

It does not make that much of a difference which moves Montreal makes at the draft or this summer. Indeed, if they get a good regular season and subsequently makes the playoffs, then, most fans/ media will be happy...It has been like that for years in Montreal. Mr. Molson knows it well...!!!

I just want them to draft forwards with the first 4 picks. We have enough defenders (dmen and goal) that we can trade some for another useful asset. Let's do the same with our offense

Montreal is in the driver's seat, they didn't make any moves at the deadline and still made the playoffs. Plus, they get at least 3 upgrades, possibly 4, with Dach, Reinbacher, Demidov and Beck all joining in. So, any deal is totally not necessary, they can afford to sit and wait for another team to get ultra desperate, then come in like a shark. And the cap space is another trade weapon - they can sit and wait for another cap dump and get another 1st rounder. With so many teams way overpaying players, there will inevitably be cap dump players every year.

Here's my real crazy idea. We all know Edmonton isn't going to win it this year once again. So I would wait to see if McDavid will sign ,I say no. That's when Montreal should pounce on him and open the vault for McDavid. Montreal has a better support staff and much better goaltending.
