If you get a joystick, you can pull your throttle back when the countdown starts to make sure you're at 0 throttle when you enter the new system. This makes sure you don't go full throttle into the star when you arrive.

Contrary to popular belief, black holes don't suck things in like a cosmic vacuum. They have the same amount of mass that the star that made it had, so they have the same size of gravity well. If earth was compressed to a small enough point to become a singularity, the moons orbit would not change.
