The USA needs Saudi and Gulf money to finance its bonds , reshoring of manufacturing , AI and USA govt bonds until we can somehow limit the deficit. He may be pacifying Netanyahu who has delusions of destabilizing Iran. But the real players are Saudi and the Gulf who are quite happy to continue a modus Vivendi with Iran and above all things keep the straights of Hormuz open.

But id say Fergusson was derply anachronistic to mention bunker busting bombs ( tried out in Afganistan before we fled ) on the mountain centifuge. Isteal maybe did damage by taking out electicity to the hardened site. But even with destruction of Russian anti missle defences and degradation of its air force we can not use bunker busters .they require hugr slow cargo planes to carry thr massive conventional bomb. I believe isreal would have to use a small nuclear bomb to destroy the hardened site in the mountain. I doubt the USA would give Isreal permission because we need the good will of the Saudis . But a little mischief to aid Isteal humour it even if we forbid a nuclear strike , what harm is there in that ? None.

I think the point of what Trump said was to weaponize evacuation. if all the roads out of Tehran are clogged with vehicles, that poses severe logistics and mobility issues for the Iranian military in the region. It also means that the industries those people work at will shut down. I think it was clever myself.

I have mixed views on this conflict. It seems Iran sent hundreds of ballistic missiles to Russia to use in Ukraine, so doesn't have as much for itself. I think as with the Assad regime, the Ayatollahs are discovering that Russia cant protect them. If this harms Irans ability to help Russia then that side is good. But I am cynical because this White House doesnt care much about what happens to Ukraine. Im concerned about Putins offer "to mediate" and that this will be used to try to get the US to stop helping Ukraine. Also, while I support the end to the Iranian regime, I think that should be a decision for the Iranian people. I think there is a real risk that the Iraq fiasco is about to be repeated, because some US billionaires want Iran's oil.
