Focusrite 18i20 & Octopre MKII Combo

Hi there,

Just wondering; what is the point of the Octopre?
Why not just buy another 18i20 and connect it to my current one via ADAT?
They are a very similar price, so may as well! Is there something I am overlooking?
It would make more sense to me if the Octopre was significantly cheaper

my Tascam FW1884 has an Adat Ligthpipe connection on it. would the octopre mkii be able to plug into that and work?

Is it possible to use two 18i20's the same way? I mean using one of the 18i20's to replace the Octopre MKII.

Hi, did you notice any issues with latency over the ADAT inputs? How does the USB handle a 16-instrument recording?

AD converters, yes. DA, no (the more expensive mkII dynamic has DA converters)

Can you connect 2 OctoPre MkII dynamic to scarlett 18i120 ?

Maybe you can help me. I'm transferring 8 tracks of digital audio from my ADAT XT to my DAW. You mention connecting using the ADAT optical. I see a "door" covering the actual connection "IN" on the Scarlett 18i20. (BTW I have a Scarlett 18i6 ) How do I get past this door cover ? REMOVE the door ? OR push the optical cable to push the door up and connect ? If so, then how do I hold the optical cable, as it only connects in a certain way. I can't see the connection with that door covering it.

Hi, did just that (with Logic x) but getting clicks when recording (or even just talking through) from from the mk2 channels. the 18i20 channels are fin. any ideas? thanks

Absolutely LOVE the Focusrite stuff. Great quality, sound, reliability, and flexibility. A home run for Focusrite! ☺

I need to know if I can use not only all the 8 inputs on the Octopre but also all the outputs at the same time through the Adat cable.

So with the 18i20 and the octopre linked together, will I be able to record 16 inputs/channels simultaneously?

Put a windscreen on that microphone, or use a pop filter. Please, the plosives in this video are substantially loud to comment about it.

maybe a dumb question but how do you get the other two inputs. The 18i20 has 8 analogue inputs and the octepre gives you 8 more which adds up to 16 but how do you get the remaining two to get the full 18?

Advice needed here ! Do I get 16 Outs in my DAW if I use these two connected with ADAT ?

I’ve scoured the internet looking for info on the Scarlett 18i20 because I needed at least 11 or 12 channels and now knowing it’s not only possible but I’d have more channels for recording! This is awesome! I love how straight to the point this video was, I just wish there was a bit more hands on to hook it up but I’ve gathered it takes cables in the back, setting up in the software and connecting the two devices .

Which ones will be identified as inputs 1-8 and which ones 9-16? I'm assuming the OctoPre will be 1-8 since it then sends via the 1820. Is that right or is it the other way round?

Could I use the Octopre in this setup to run outboard gear as inserts? I have this exact setup but with the 3rd Gen 18i20

What is the difference between the Octopre MK2 in this video and the Scarlett Octopre MK2 that has a blue front? I guess it's older but are they the same unit in different cases? My 18i20 has a red case.

What about outputs? Does it increase your outputs from 10 channels to anything more?

anyone know how to make these things talk to each other, because "There you have it!" doesn't do the trick. Tried that already.

I have a Scarlett 18i20 3rd Gen. And a Scarlett OctoPre Dynamic. Wouldn’t they’d go in differently? Not exactly sure how do to link them properly, It’s my first time
