It's just so much meat for the pack. That's the way the wolves are looking at it. The risk is very high, but this is to feed the entire pack and it's young. Not all hunting party members will survive, but the pack must go on at any cost, including their own lives.

It's not buffalo that's bison also the wolf and bison were too exhausted to move and that wolf getting stepped on literally almost (or did) died..
