I loved this trilogy. The first one was awesome, and I couldn't put the second one down. The third book was so satisfying in its payoff I had goosebumps. I have never read a novel that tied together so many story threads so well into a beautiful plot bow 🎀. That is one of my favorite things in a book though, really complicated plot elements that tie together.

Actually though

(Spoilers)

She literally got pewter at the beginning from trace amounts of metal in the water supply, and that’s why she was able to handle getting beaten by Camon. This is before she knows what allomancy is; it wasn’t even intentional. Any real person would actually just get heavy metal poisoning.

The Mistborn Saga is also great at getting one to explore philosophical topics. The acting from the main cast of characters in the Graphic Audio version is just amazing. It’s more expensive but I highly recommend it

I mean, it's about on the same level of radiation giving you super powers instead of boring old cancer.

Do you/anyone have any recommendations for any one off books?

I wanna read. But i dont wanna commit myself to some 8 book saga.

(If its a 2 book series, that is okay, maybe 3 of they are short)

My first thought was "LET THE BODIES HIT THE FLOOOOOORRRRRR 🤬" heavy metal and not "Flint, Michigan" heavy metal and I was simultaneously intrigued and confused 😂

I love Mistborn- I am also aware it is “what if the evil dictator won and had to be defeated by the most ragtag group of criminals taking large doses of dangerous poison”
It’s absolutely batshit and I adore it so much
Also- the costume design descriptions are just chefs kiss

I was replying to a comment and recalled a WW2 song.
I looked it up online and could only find the American version about paratroopers and not the British version I learned about spitfire pilots.
Either way, it's worth a look, especially if you are considering drinking heavy metal.
It's called: Blood on the Risers (Glory, Glory, what a helluva way to Die). 😂

With a side of emotional trauma at the end of book one.
My daughter rage quit reading for two whole days. (If you know you know!)
Now I'm bracing for the end of book three and the emotional rollercoaster that will happen with that

I really wanted to like that book but unfortunately was disappointed, just not for me. I keep trying to get into his stuff but it doesn't draw me in like Martha Wells, for example. I don't hate it, it's just blah.

Okay, but could you actually answer the question they asked instead of being snarky about it?
Mistborn is half political scheming half heist movie. It's about a band of thieves plotting to rob the god king of their world, while also featuring a coming of age story around a young thief girl who gets embroiled in her disguise as a noble in the court while learning about her unusual powers. The main character points revolve around her reconciling those two, the street urchin and shadowed thief with strange powers vs the shy noble girl who's only desire is to make connections (so that she can exploit them for thieving). Other thematic points include discussing what makes a person a hero, how the upper class exploits everyday people, and the ways our relationships with others strengthen us. This is capped off with genuinely one of my favorite power systems in fiction.

I can confirm that the first half of this book is exceptional. I also have it on good authority that the sequels etc live up to the hype.
Unfortunately, I need peace to read, and that has recently proven impossible to find in a house of chaos… The books I could have read since mid-January, I weep for them 😢
